Lockheed Martin, the world's leading producer of advanced weapon systems, is significantly increasing its production capabilities for various missile systems. This expansion is in response to the escalating global demand for defence solutions. The American defence giant is on track to boost the manufacturing of its weaponry systems, including the renowned HIMARS. Production capacities have already escalated from 48 to 60 units annually, with a goal to reach 96 units by the end of 2024. This increase underscores Lockheed Martin's commitment to meeting the rising international need for advanced artillery systems. In addition to HIMARS, Lockheed Martin has upped the production of anti-tank Javelin missiles to 2,400 units per year. The company aims to further expand this capacity to nearly 4,000 units annually by 2026. However, with over 10,000 units already supplied to Ukraine, replenishing US stockpiles is anticipated to take several years. The importance of land launched Long Range Precision Strike capability can not be understated. With the development of AUKUS Pillar 2 and MDTF the investment in these capabilities is central to our ‘One launcher, many payloads’ vision for the British Army’s Deep Fires modernisation programme. To quote a paragraph from the article: ‘At the heart of the MDTF’s formidable firepower is the Precision Strike Missile – successor to the powerful Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) which is now changing the shape of the battlefield in Ukraine. Co-developed with Australia, and planned for the British army, this missile enables strikes on high-value targets deep within enemy territory. As a ballistic weapon, it is considerably harder to defend against than cruise missiles such as the well known Tomahawk.’

Iron Dome is an Israeli air defense system that has been in service since 2011 and aims to protect Israeli citizens by launching guided missiles to intercept incoming rockets mid-air. The missiles themselves are called Tamir. Its design aims to destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells fired from distances of 4 to 70 kilometers. Since 2014, Raytheon has been announced as the major U.S. partner in the co-production of the main components for the Iron Dome’s Tamir intercepting missile. On October 7, 2023, the Gaza-based Palestinian militant group Hamas fired several thousand missiles at various targets across Israel. However, Israel had less than a thousand interceptors in the field to counter them, which meant that some missiles were going to get through. The Hamas group simply used a low-cost, less-capable approach to defeat a more expensive, high-technology system. According to research, each missile can cost up to $150,000. Since Saturday, there have been around 4,500 missiles fired from Israel, which adds up to $675,000,000. One would believe that since Raytheon is one of the main defense suppliers in the world at the moment, the company would be doing outstandingly since the outbreak of the Ukrainian war due to larger demand. However, they are extremely busy and overloaded with production to satisfy the current demand. Therefore, don’t expect Raytheon to gain any enormous advantage from the war with Hamas. On the contrary, another company that could potentially profit from the war would be Lockheed Martin, a global security and aerospace company. On October 10, 2023, Lockheed Martin won a contract with the U.S. Army to develop and deliver up to four laser weapon systems. The aim of the weapon system is the same as for the Iron Dome, and the only difference is that instead of missiles, it uses a laser to destroy the targeted rockets. Although the system is still under testing, the Army believes the laser could be delivered just next year. This contract presents a tremendous opportunity for Lockheed Martin. Based on the poor track record of the hypersonic missile development this is not a surprise. However, it means that this will not be fielded by the end of the year as was the "revised" schedule after numerous previous delays. It's hard to fathom that with a $821B budget, and growing, that DoD and our bloated and out of control military industrial complex cannot field what has been a stated defense strategy priority for years. Yet the Russians and Chinese have already done so.

The United States Army’s newly established Multi-Domain Task Force (MDTF) in the Pacific is a completely new kind of military unit. Armed with an array of cutting-edge technologies, such as high-altitude balloons, Precision Strike Missiles, cyber warfare units and unmanned systems, the MDTF is also the first real world manifestation of the lesser-known second pillar of the Australia-UK-US defence pact – #AUKUS In the words of the agreement itself: “Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States are pooling the talents of our defence sectors to catalyse, at an unprecedented pace, the delivery of advanced capabilities.” The 3rd MDTF, headquartered in Hawaii, really illustrates this kind of thinking and it also indicates how seriously the US Army takes its dedication to Multi-Domain Operations. Multi-Domain Operations refers to the strategic integration of capabilities across all domains of warfare—land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace. The task force will welcome five Australian and three British officers this summer. General Charles Flynn, the US Army Pacific Commander, referred to this as the “initial seed corn of creating that combined capability,” showcasing the collaborative nature of AUKUS Pillar. China might think that its arsenal of missiles and interlocking sensors – combined with its growing naval power – could keep Aukus forces out of any fight over Taiwan or the Nine Dash Line. This can be done by employing a mix of tactical missiles, air-to-air capabilities and electronic warfare. The U.S. may be wise to permit ATACMS to strike distant airfields. In warfare, silver bullets are rare. Fighting often requires multiple capabilities and innovative or flexible use. More of both will be needed to enable Ukraine to defeat the glide bomb threat. China might think that its arsenal of missiles and interlocking sensors – combined with its growing naval power – could keep AUKUS forces out of any fight over Taiwan or the Nine Dash Line. The 3rd MDTF is there to prove Beijing wrong. The MDTF also fields Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) weapons, mobile rocket artillery essential for rapid deployment and strike capability. The U.S. Army has established a Multi-Domain Task Force (MDTF) in the Pacific under the lesser known Pillar 2 of the Australia-UK-US defense pact, or Aukus. The 3rd MDTF, headquartered in Hawaii, will represent the Aukus Pillar 2 objective "to integrate science, technology, industrial bases, and supply chains related to security and defence in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia." The MDTF will be armed with advanced technologies, including the Precision Strike Missile, a ballistic weapon system which was co-developed by U.S. and Australia, and will be used by the British army as well. MDTF will also field the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS), which has been used effectively in Ukraine.
