Let's talk about the "Skills" section. I've chatted with lots of hiring managers, and they really care about your experience in the role you are applying for. Here's the thing: When hiring managers look at your resume and see certain skills listed but not tied to your past jobs, they might think you haven't used those skills recently if not the past years. This could make them pass on your application at times which unfortunately has happened. I always tell my candidates that it's not just about listing skills; it's about showing how you've used them. So, when you apply for a job, make sure to match your skills with the job requirements and show where you've used them before. This helps the hiring manager see when you last used those skills and what you can do. In short, listing skills on your resume isn't enough. You've got to show how you've put them into action in your work. What do you think about this? Let me know your thoughts! #recruiting #resumetips #resume

Let’s get serious: It's not just about choosing one over the other. It's about understanding their purpose and using them effectively. So, if you: - Use an objective when applying for a specific role to show your career goals align with the employer - Include a summary to highlight your skills, experience, and value proposition at the top of your resume - Avoid general or vague statements that don’t add value - Tailor your summary or objective to each job application - Lead with an objective when you’re changing careers or starting fresh - Choose a summary when you have years of relevant experience to showcase Then, your resume will stand out to hiring managers. It’s never about “which one should I use?” It’s about how you use it. An objective tells them what you want. A summary tells them why they need you. P.S. Which do you prefer: Objective or Summary? #resume #cv #job

#1 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞: 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞! 𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐂 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐄𝐒 𝐃𝐎.𝐍𝐎𝐓. 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐊. Yes, very often, when I help individuals apply for their dream jobs, and prepare for the interview, I am shocked to find that they make little to no changes to their one, generic, default resume. THIS IS NOT OK. Each time you apply for a job, do these: .𝐂𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐓𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐬: Adjust your job titles to reflect the terminology used in the job listing. This helps recruiters quickly see how your experience matches their needs. .𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: Focus on highlighting experiences and achievements that directly relate to the job you're applying for. Delete or minimize irrelevant details. .𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐊𝐞𝐲𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬: Use keywords from the job description throughout your resume. This can help your resume get noticed by applicant tracking systems (ATS) and hiring managers. ,𝐓𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐎𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: Adjust your objective or summary statement to align with the specific role and company you're applying to. Show how your goals and skills match theirs. .𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬: Tailor your skills section to match the job requirements listed in the job posting. If they're looking for specific skills, make sure those stand out. .𝐑𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: Move the most relevant sections, such as skills or experience, to the top of your resume. Put the most important information where it's easily seen. .𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬: If you've worked on projects relevant to the job, include them in a separate section or under each relevant job experience. So, there you have it, a list of all the changes you need to make each time you send your resume to organizations. I've seen too many resumes that don't have a summary statement. I'm sure you've heard that hiring managers only spend 7 seconds looking at your resume. A summary statement is the best way to grab interest. Not only for the hiring manager, but it is a great way to optimize keywords in your resume for the ATS. There are two cases when you'd benefit the most from a summary statement: -Early Career? Show your passion, skills, and goals. Let 'em see your potential! -Switching Careers? Highlight what you bring from your past. It's about transferable skills and fresh starts. In both cases, you might not have experience with your target role. A summary statement is the best way to include your target role in your resume and make it ATS friendly. Comment your email down below and I'll send you a high performing example summary statement. Also, share your summary tips below! 🚀💬 #CareerTips #ResumeHacks #SummaryStatements #JobSearch

Is Customizing My Resume for Each Job Worth It? #resume #jobapplication #newchallenge This question pops up regularly, and it's a truly intriguing one! My approach might differ from the typical "one-size-fits-all" advice floating around. Instead of a definitive yes or no, I'd say, "It depends." I'm not a fan of the generic, clickbait-style guidance that insists on absolutes. The decision to tailor your resume hinges on several factors: your industry, experience level, the return on investment from customization, the volume of applications you're sending out, the nature of the positions you're eyeing, and the competitiveness of your specific background in the job market. For those in the niche world of hiring for hard-to-fill tech roles, I've seen cases where a resume scribbled in crayon on a tissue paper might still get a call if the qualifications align! On the flip side, when I recruited for high-turnover food service positions, a misspelled fast-food chain name on a resume was forgiven as long as the food-handler's certification was in order. If you find yourself caught in the middle and struggling to gain traction, it might be worth the effort to tweak your resume strategically. Picture this: you're a recruiter applying for a supervisory role—how can you highlight recent mentorship and leadership experiences to align with the position? Or, imagine transitioning from recruiting to project management—how can your resume showcase project management skills gained during your recruiting stint? This is where ChatGPT comes in handy, making the process quick and painless. You can ask it to craft content tailored to your needs, refining until it resonates perfectly with you. The reason I share these detailed posts is that there's no universal advice. You're unique, and so is your career journey. What works for you might not work for your neighbor or friend. Exercise your judgment when deciding whether to invest time tweaking your resume. And let's not forget, sometimes it's not your resume that needs adjusting—it's the job market! In a robust job market, the need for extensive tweaking diminishes. Here's hoping for a stronger job market in 2024!
