It was great to attend Jersey Community Foundation's ‘The Culture of Philanthropy: Unlocking Jersey’s Philanthropic Potential’ event this morning and listen to Beth Breeze OBE. One of the big takeaways I got from the event is why is philanthropy good for business? -it helps gain clients -it helps retain clients and their extended family -it can deepen relationships with clients This last point is massive for me and extends to impact investing…. I wonder how many in Jersey’s finance industry are having meaningful conversations with their clients on their values, that gets to their motivations and passions? Etcho #sustainablefinance

The website for our Philanthropy Lab – an innovative, transformative space for funders – is now live! 🎉 The Philanthropy Lab is a place for philanthropic funders to connect, develop new forms of strategy, and work together towards greater impact. We believe that to see the fundamental changes our world needs, we must transform how philanthropy happens. The Lab is a place in which to set greater goals together, work across silos and foster systemic change. It is a space to learn about and put into practice new models, transformative structures, and new forms of collective action. Our guiding star is to support economies in service to life, with three active workstreams currently: 👉 Evolving the tax system to serve life 👉 Going beyond ESG 👉 Supporting the rights of nature movement Intrigued? Excited? Head to to the Lab’s brand new website and discover how you can get involved: www.philanthropy-lab.org The Philanthropy Lab is hosted by EFN and the The Bio-Leadership Project. #philanthropy #lab #learning #funding #grants #trusts #funders #foundations #impact

What if the greatest challenge isn’t the funds you seek, but the story you haven’t told yet? At Kohmorehbee, we often see organisations stuck between grand visions and the minute details, but what if you didn’t have to choose? You can step back, see the bigger picture, and still dive deep into the specifics that matter? We don’t just build strategies—we build understanding. We don’t just assess the philanthropic landscape—we transform the way you navigate it. By working closely with organisations, we help remove the inherent inhibitions toward fundraising, enabling teams to see their impact through the lens of different stakeholders including funders. In doing so, we help rewrite narratives and foster a deeper sense of ownership towards resource mobilisation. #communication #impact #socialsector #philanthropy

FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE PHILANTHROPY LAB! A place for philanthropic funders to come together in pursut of the Lab's North Star: To support economies in service to life. https://lnkd.in/gURPMU7x At John Ellerman Foundation, we have been longstanding supporters of the Philanthropy Lab because it represents an exciting and ambitious approach that supports funders to collaborate and work together in new, more dynamic ways. It provides a space where funders can think through how to tackle the root causes of much of what our funding tries to address. The Lab’s North Star, to create economies in service to life, is hugely supportive of work we are already doing and planning across our grantmaking and investing at John Ellerman Foundation. We are really enjoying working in community to build out the principles and approach of the Lab, as well as learning from many different speakers on a range of topics, and working together on the Lab’s three workstreams of supporting transformative nature right’s work, shifting the narrative around the tax system so that it can better protect and restore nature, and considering our options to invest in ways that go beyond the traditional ESG investing approaches. Ultimately the Lab represents a learning opportunity for us and has supported us to think about how to address root causes of systemic challenges as funders. It has been a welcome opportunity for challenging our own thinking on the art of the possible as funders in supporting lasting and transformational environmental systems change. This feels vital and affirming given the immense existential environmental and societal challenges that we face. The Lab allows us to rise to these challenges decisively and meaningfully in collaboration with others. Connecting philanthropists with life saving medical research | Key Relationships Specialist @ Harry Perkins
Insightful article in Business News this morning on the ripple effect of philanthropic giving.. 💡 Philanthropy and social investment are different to one off charitable giving, with the former encouraging a planned and considered approach for the deepest impact 💡 "Generous philanthropic donations change lives, not just for now, but for the future as it addresses disparity, influences innovation and creates changes through programs and development that may have, otherwise, not seen the light of day" 💡 “That is the beauty of philanthropy and social investment. It impacts lasting social change and also spreads roots into the wider society” and my personal favourite: 🤸♂️ "Research has shown that those who donate time or money appear to feel happier, have lower stress levels, and report living a more meaningful live"! Philanthropy is not only about grantmaking. Principle 8 of the Philanthropy Transformation Initiative shows how philanthropic organisations can use their expertise, connections, reputation and convening power to advance social goals and address global challenges. The Tony Elumelu Foundation shows how other assets can be leveraged to increase the impact of their work. After years of a successful programme funding entrepreneurs, the foundation started to tap into other assets like partnerships for pooled funds, creating a free online platform with business tips and networking support, and involving board members and senior stakeholders in mentoring and training processes. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻? In a recent Forbes article, Christina Engel, CEO of Magic Cabinet, highlights a critical shift needed in philanthropy: moving from control to collaboration. Engel points out that traditional philanthropy often relies on rigid systems and top-down strategies, neglecting the essential elements of trust and understanding. For true impact, it’s vital to rethink how we engage with and support non-profits. I wholeheartedly support Christina’s vision of equitable grant systems where community stakeholders have a say in shaping funding strategies. So, I ask you, are you ready to move from control to collaboration? Are you willing to embrace equitable partnerships and truly listen to the voices of those on the frontlines? Let’s push for a future where philanthropy isn’t about power plays but about real, lasting impact. Read the article for yourself here: https://shorturl.at/L4HYj
