I will admit that I borrowed this subject from a friend. Thank you, Tracy Coenen, CPA, CFF, MAFF for the idea! Forgive me, but I'm going to brag. I hope you don't mind. I don't do this often, if ever. I love performing #hotelinternalaudits for both hotel owners and hotel management companies. I especially appreciate it when both parties acknowledge their imperfections and are willing to look at themselves objectively. Many #hotelmanagementcompanies struggle with self-reflection, and some hotel owners have unrealistic expectations of perfection. I genuinely enjoy conducting proactive internal audits at hotels. I might be the first in the hotel industry to say that. I believe every hotel and manager can benefit from my audits. Too often, hotels decline audits due to perceived costs, only to face more significant financial consequences later. The stigma around internal auditors needs to go away. I love reviewing hotel documents, understanding their policies and procedures, and engaging our future leaders, making them better. It's gratifying when I can train them on simple policies and procedures that make their lives easier and increase profitability. It's rewarding when an owner appreciates an unbiased third party's involvement in resolving a challenging situation, even if it wasn't the management company's usual practice. It's a win/win for both parties. But it's even more satisfying when a manager says, "You've taught me more about policies and procedures in the last few days than I've learned from the management company in the last 7 months. I was going to resign, but now I won't." I love it when I leave a hotel knowing I made them better.
