Managing Director | Advancing the worlds connection to the future mobility & clean technology engineering talent
I just experienced a great week in Strasbourg attending the #AABC Europe conference with Tom Sloan. It was great to see the thought leaders in our space come together and discuss some of the key topics to facilitate mass adoption of Electric Vehicles (Passenger & Commercial). Let's face it, we have a major threat on our hands and the Chinese market is ahead of us. The only way to catch up is by working together as an overall industry and I came away from the conference feeling very optimistic about the European & US market as some of the solutions that have been proposed will overcome the challenges that are head. So why were TECHNE there? As a recruiter in our space, we have a solid footprint within the BMS market and we attended the conference to learn how the bridge between Software & Chemistry is evolving and to truly understand what are the key development factors that is going to facilitate the mass adoption of EV vehicles. The conference did not disappoint and here are a few findings we extracted: - The major OEM's are driving significant change in their cell choices and there seems to be an ongoing theme of transitioning from prismatic cells to cylindrical cells. - The continued research, options and new technology findings that we are witnessing in relation to chemical compounds are going to be the key to mainstream EV adoption. - Rapid charging is a key enabler to the adoption of both passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles and the industry is not short of options, we have witnessed "game-changing" options, and the one that stands out is the utilisation of Graphene raw material that is enabling exceptional charge times with minimum disruption on the lifecycle of the battery system. - The term Software Defined Vehicle is getting chucked around the industry but the conference provided us with some great insights into how the industry is integrating Battery systems into Zonal Architectures. We are seeing some very interesting concepts from Tier 1 suppliers such as Munich Electrification. - The commercial vehicle (CV) market is a great market to showcase how we develop batteries that will eradicate range anxiety and although they are somewhat behind, the CV industry is expected to go through a huge phase of growth. - Businesses that truly connect the dots between Software, Chemistry & Physics will win the development race. - By combining Software solutions & cost-effective chemistry solutions, it will allow us as an industry to meet the required cost optimisation objectives making EV's more affordable for consumers. I've come away feeling proud to be part of this journey and I will look forward to continue going on this journey with you all in the years ahead.
