case study, The Theater — captivating from the start, our collaboration with a vibrant fine-dining venue with live entertainment led to an intriguing project. This endeavor became a labor of love, as we dedicated extensive time and effort to showcase the essence of theatrical life. From inception, our goal was clear: to offer audiences a 360-degree view into the captivating world of The Theater. We meticulously crafted a comprehensive production plan, delving into every aspect of The Theater's operations and behind-the-scenes magic. Over the course of the project, we produced over 50 captivating videos, offering glimpses into rehearsals, set design, costume creation, and more. These videos not only provided a fascinating peek behind the curtain but also garnered significant engagement, with our creative reels amassing over 1 million views. Behind every production was a dedicated team of 15+ individuals, each contributing their unique talents to bring our vision to life. Together, we meticulously crafted over 50 creative scripts, ensuring that each video captured the essence of The Theater's spirit and artistry. This project was more than just a showcase of our capabilities—it was a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and the transformative power of the performing arts. For this article I interviewed producers and performers in locally-based storytelling and improv shows in different areas of the country. As the theater and entertainment world continues to find its post-pandemic footing, all the perils and problems that plague arts-based projects are amplified: operational costs, scarce resources, risk-averse behavior on every side. But we need what theater offers: Stories. Insight. Emotional connection. Community. Returning to our theater roots, we are working with our client in Texas to create an interactive Theatre in the Round experience. The stage is always in the center with the audience arranged on all sides and is most commonly rectangular, circular, diamond, or triangular. Presenters may enter and exit through the audience from different directions. In effect, theatre-in-the-round removes the 4th wall and brings the presenter into the same space as the audience, allowing for strong and direct engagement with the audience. Scenic design is usually minimal since it would obscure the audience's view. $17.50 for two - What would you do? After all the visits on Christmas Day, my wife and I loaded up to see Wonka that night at our hometown theatre. Two tickets were $10. Drinks and a small buttered popcorn, $7.50. That’s not special holiday pricing. It’s what the downtown theatre charges. It only has two screen, so your movie choices are limited and your show is either upstairs or downstairs. As we sit (upstairs, BTW) waiting on the show to start, my wife suggests that the seats could use some upgrading. The screen and sound system are also ancient by any standard. However, you can imagine upgrades would be expensive and require a substantial increase in pricing. That increase would put them in direct competition with a ten-screen theatre 15 minutes away. Just for fun, here’s the question: If you ran your own Capri, would you invest in a cinematic facelift, or is the vintage charm and reasonable pricing more important than plush seats and high-tech screens? Interested in your take on this traditional hometown business model. (P.S. Wonka was pretty enjoyable, even without rocking seats)
