"Kali Akuno of Cooperation Jackson and Bernard E. Harcourt reimagine the university as a multi-stakeholder cooperative of faculty, students, staff, and community on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. "The university, as a collegium of scholars and students, is under threat across the globe and in the United States. State governments are interfering with academic freedom and knowledge, dictating what can and cannot be taught. Private donors are interfering with the scholarly project and the discourse of learning. Whether at public universities or private universities, the climate of learning has become intolerable. "Join us for an exploration with Kali Akuno of Cooperation Jackson of another model: a multi-stakeholder cooperative university run by and for those who want to learn–the faculty and students. The model dates back to the Middle Ages at least, when universities were first born as cooperatives of faculty or of students. Let’s explore together a new model for learning in the twenty-first century! Welcome to Coöperism 13/13!"

Check what's happening in your universities! Professors are having a negative impact on students, the very educators you entrusted with shaping your children into decent human beings are actually tainting their perspectives with distorted views of the world. #hamsisisis #hamasmassacre #thewestisnext #openyoureyes #standwithhumanity #speakup #standup #usa #uk #westisnext https://lnkd.in/dw5Bkuz5

To highlight, The CUNY SEEK program (Search for Education, Elevation, and Knowledge) has been a vital pathway to higher education started by Black and Puerto Rican students organizers recently celebrating 58 years (1966) of fostering academic success and personal growth. As a former SEEK participant, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of this program, which was designed to level the playing field in a society where educational opportunities are often unequal. The recent overturning of affirmative action highlights the ongoing struggle for equal access to education, underscoring the need to continue advocating for all students, regardless of their background. Capitalism plays a complex role in granting access to education and resources. While it drives innovation and economic growth, it also exacerbates inequalities by prioritizing profit over equitable opportunities. The commodification of education places a price tag on knowledge, making it accessible only to those who can afford it. As we move forward, it is crucial to challenge these systemic barriers and ensure that programs like SEEK continue to provide access and support to marginalized communities, helping them break through the economic and social limitations. #seekprogram #education
🎉 Celebrating the success of our SEEK scholars with CUNY Chancellor Felix Matos Rodriguez at the recent ICORP symposium! Evaluation provides the insights we need for change
Dr Sally Andrews has completed a TASO commissioned project where she and her team worked with six higher education providers to develop Theory of Change models and evaluation plans for interventions to address the Ethnicity Degree Awarding Gap. This project is critical to advance the use of evidence-informed and theoretically derived approaches to develop and evaluate interventions to reduce inequalities in student outcomes in UK higher education. Sally has been invited to speak by QAA, Universities UK, and at the Independent Higher Education conference concerning how to support the sector to meaningfully, successfully, and sustainably reduce inequity for non-traditional entrants to higher education

I am pleased to share that our publication on transnational education (TNE), co-authored by Eduardo Ramos and Michael Peak, has been featured in the summer edition of #IHE119. This article draws on the discussions held at the British Council's Deep Dialogue series, expertly curated by Nishat Riaz MBE, which took place at Edinburgh Napier University in March 2024. We are grateful to Hans (J.W.M.) de Wit for his valuable feedback and support. Some key observations from the article include: - A significant expansion of collaborative TNE in recent years. - This growth is primarily driven by increasing student demand. - Growing regulatory support for TNE among countries with large youthful populations, such as #India, #Pakistan, and #Nigeria. - An increase in the number of educational institutions engaged in delivering TNE programs. The emergence of mega higher education systems, as referenced above, will shape the future of #highered. Collaborative forms of TNE offer a means to engage with these developments. The study draws on a British Council project focused on developing a Global TNE Framework. #transnationaleducation #TNE #highered #intled #sustainabledevelopment
