With Hudson's Bay Company's recent US$2.65 billion deal to acquire luxury department store Neiman Marcus, it's clear that the landscape of retail is ever-evolving. Interestingly, across the pond, independent department stores are defying the trend of decline, experiencing a resurgence as consumers rediscover their love for physical shopping. By honing in on local consumer preferences and investing in their stores, experiences, and brand relationships, these independents are thriving and hitting the sweet spot on local high streets. In some ways, this mirrors what we are seeing in Canada, with the growth of La Maison Simons and their bold moves into new markets across the country. Whether independent or not, what is clear is that client relationships and outstanding service are core to achieving positive results! (I am shamelessly plugging the need for great talent! 😂 ) #retail #departmentstores #retailcareers #retailrecruitment

Anyone in the regional or national site location business needs to study this unless you have been using the data already. Everyone is being tracked from their homes to work, shopping, entertainment, restaurants, etc.; landlords, retail tenants, and restaurant chains are using that data to shut down poor locations and open up in better locations. More stores are opening up than shutting down.

#storeproductivity #retailproductivity #smallisgood The average store size in the U.S. is the smallest it's been in at least 17 years as American shopping habits have evolved. The rise in ecommerce and a growing distaste for giant emporiums have resulted in less demand for department stores and big box spaces. Perhaps this is a good thing. Why? Because the U.S. has much more retail space per capita than any other country...an estimated 23 square feet per person. That's compared to countries like the UK, France, Germany and Japan where the average retail space is less than 5 square feet per person. The second highest country after the U.S. is Canada at about 16 square feet and third is Australia at about 11 square feet. "We are clearly overretailed in America...Suburban sprawl created a situation where we just believed that every time there was a new intersection with four corners we needed to put up four strip centers. We're learning differently now." Brian Carlock head of PwC's U.S. real estate practice Have your shopping habits changed? What do you think the future holds for American brick and mortar retail?

What would attract you back in your High Street? Many cities have lost and are continuing to lose long established Branded retailers as well as Small retailers offering unique or specialist products because they can't afford to be in the high street anymore. Convenience led buying and keeping costs lower has led to people travelling away from the city High Street to large shopping malls or shopping online. So, my question if there was a way to bring smaller retailers back to the High Street, what would you like to see where you live for you to spend more time there? #retailers #retailindustry #restaurantsuccess

Delivering creative ways to engage with a variety of entertaining concepts for corporate, hospitality, trade shows, and special events.
The challenges faced by retail companies, big and small build, especially those with physical locations, not the least of which is getting customer traffic! Making your location a destination partially depends on how you can get them to walk in. In-person events, entertaining in-store concepts bring people out. and the more engaging the experience, the greater the chances they'll walk in, browse, and buy.
