Meet Dr. David Seay, whose experience going to an eye doctor as a kid inspired him to pursue optometry to help others with their vision. Dr. Seay had poor eyesight as a child and remembers how wondrous it was the first time he put on glasses. 👁 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝘆? Throughout the years, he's found the experience of seeing multiple generations of families most rewarding. "I like interacting with my young patients and watching them grow up and bring in their own kids." In his free time, Dr. Seay likes spoiling his dogs and trying new restaurants with his wife. You can book your appointment with Dr. Seay at our location on South East Street. Find the link in our bio to book your next appointment!

Last week, The Vision Council released new research that reveals the realities of life with low vision, a visual impairment resulting in central vision loss, peripheral vision loss, difficulty seeing in low light, and/or blurry vision. Two findings that struck me the most are that 90% of patients are diagnosed by eyecare professionals, yet referrals to low vision specialists remain underutilized, and that doctors are the primary source of information for 72% of patients, but online resources are increasingly used. These findings highlight the vital role optometrists play, not only in diagnosing visual impairments but also in raising awareness and educating patients about eye health. Throughout my career in the eye care industry, I aim to accomplish two things: increase consumer awareness so people truly understand the importance of eye exams, and protect and help grow the profession. Optometrists and eye exams are key in diagnosing visual impairments and creating personalized treatment plans for each patient on their vision wellness journey. At MyEyeDr., we are dedicated to making eye health a priority for everyone and offering opportunities for optometrists across the country. Myopia may be sneaky, but early detection is the key! 🕵️♂️ Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a common refractive error that causes distant objects to appear blurry. Regular eye exams are essential for detecting myopia, as optometrists can measure the degree of nearsightedness and prescribe corrective lenses accordingly. Early identification of myopia in children is crucial, as it allows for interventions like orthokeratology or specialized contact lenses that may help slow its progression. Keep an eye out for signs, and schedule regular checkups to maintain crystal-clear vision.

Interesting example about how to take on life as your age, staying relevant in your profession/still contributing in a positive manner to society; "This essay is based on a transcribed conversation with Dr. Joseph Maroon, an 83-year-old neurosurgeon living in Pittsburgh, about his decision to keep working at his age instead of retiring. The following has been edited for length and clarity."; https://lnkd.in/dhJD_8vM
I'm an 83-year-old doctor who still works 50-hour weeks. I never give any thought to retirement — I still have things to contribute.

𝐈𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬? Recently, I took my daughter, Aditi, for an eye check-up at Dr. D.B. Nicholson's clinic. Neither of my parents had myopia, but both my sister and I have had the need for glasses since we were very young. My wife had the need for glasses only recently. Interestingly, both Aditi and I, despite not having a strong family history, are now proudly sporting glasses, giving off that classic nerd look. (Since we're both doctors, it only fits right doesn't it?) This visit got me reflecting on my loyalty to this eye clinic since 1977, spanning over 45 years. Back then, Dr. D.B. Nicholson attended to me, and now his son, Dr. D.D. Nicholson continues to take care of our family. What keeps me returning year after year, decade after decade? It's the exceptional service rooted in a successful family legacy and results that have consistently benefited us over the years. The use of Dr. Nicholson's classic Bosch and Lomb equipment, combined with his technique, makes the annual eye examination not just a routine but an accurate delight. I've yet to encounter a more precise mechanism for assessing distant and near vision. Having visited for so long, I've practically memorized the vision chart. In his unique style, Dr. Nicholson had me read the chart from right to left (backwards)! What's the one service your family has been loyal to for years, and why?
