What does it take to scale a business?
Most entrepreneurs would answer this question by referring to building the team, implementing systems, and expanding into new markets.
Yet, in my experience, it is often the leaders who become an important barrier to the growth of their companies.
At the #SchoolOfFounders, we developed a framework that emphasizes, among other aspects, self-awareness, self-leadership, and the acquisition of crucial leadership skills as success factors for the scaling journey. The framework is based on Ken Wilber’s work and looks at the scaling journey holistically through four lenses: the perspective of the leader (how I think, feel, and act) versus the company perspective (how we as a team think, feel, and act), and the visible, tangible aspects (the “outer game”) versus the invisible, intangible aspects, i.e., what's going on in our heads (the “inner game”).
These four, equally important, dimensions of the scaling process provide structure and balance to the curriculum of the School of Founders.
Interestingly, most entrepreneurs join the School of Founders in search of tangible advice in areas like strategy, operations, finances, etc., most of them leave us grateful for having developed into better leaders.
