NOMINATIONS ARE OPEN FOR THE NEXT FARMER OF THE FOODSHED https://lnkd.in/eMWyTAJf Each year, members of the Future Harvest community work together to nominate and award a “Farmer of the Foodshed” in the Chesapeake region and honor them at our annual conference. These farmers are leaders in the field. They are environmental stewards, who have shown longevity and continue to invest in the health of their land and community. They are the farmers that our beginning farmers aspire to be, and we are thrilled to recognize their contributions with this award. Eligibility Requirements: This farmer should be exemplary in at least three of the following criteria: - Profitability; strong business acumen - Environmental stewardship - Longevity (how long they have been farming) - Contributes to their community - Innovative - Shares knowledge with other farmers The awardee must be a Future Harvest member at the time of the award, and unless there are extenuating circumstances, be able to attend the conference in College Park, Maryland January 18 – 20, 2024. The awardee may not presently be on the Future Harvest Board of Directors or part of a farm owned by a board member or a coworker of a board member. #fhcasa #farmer #farmerawards #stewardship #leadership

"Are you ready to lift? You and me, mostly you." It was my first learning experience in scaling a company, on the farm. My uncle would use that expression sometimes to lighten the situation of the jobs to be done. The way we thrived on the farm involved four specialty areas and everyone was familiar with every area, and those jobs to be done. Those four areas are:  Planting, Providing, Harvesting, and Sharing. Planting to create what we're going to bring to the marketplace. Providing nourishment for what we're creating and learning experiences for each other throughout the season. Harvesting what we bring to the marketplace, and the profits of our work. Sharing what we've grown, as a family who gathers at the table for a meal together. Sharing what we've learned, as a family who is more than a bunch of analysts…or as my uncle would joke, "a strong back and a weak mind." More than just counting the chickens, and the eggs. Planting, Providing, Harvesting, and Sharing together with collective wisdom and insights about a real forecast for next year, and what to do about it as a team.
