I graduated university with a degree in Professional and Applied photography. Where some people might finish university and jump straight into a junior role, I decided to apply for my internship at Gymshark and here are some of the reasons that I have zero regrets in doing so: Less Pressure: Internships often come with a lower-pressure environment, allowing you to learn and grow without the immediate high expectations of a junior role. After they told me: 'We never hire people with a spiky hairstyle like yours'. Guess what… I ended up being the first student they hired! It's funny how things turn out sometimes… Isn't it? 🤭 Back then, I was finishing up my MBA in Hotel Business Management. And had already started looking for hotels in Madrid To do the 3-month internship required as part of my studies. But one afternoon, during our final classes… A professor who was working at one of Madrid's top hotels Mentioned to us the possibility of doing our internship at her property 🤩 However, whether it was because: ↳ I was sitting in the front row on that day ↳ I had caught her attention by any means She made it 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 that her hotel had very strict grooming standards And students like me, with a modern hairstyle, would 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 there 😲 'Excuse me?' I remember saying. 'Maybe students with modern hairstyles are the ones who don't want to work there...' Anyhow! Guess who was the first one to be hired there a few months later… That's right! It was me! 🤣 And I was so happy and proud to have been given such an opportunity While maintaining the same hairstyle I used to have back then. Because clearly: The upper management had a very different way of thinking than hers. So, here is a small piece of advice For those of you feeling a bit insecure when looking for a job: Always give it a try! 🌟 Because, regardless of what some people may tell you… Until you don't: → Try → Give your best → Prove yourself You will never know what you are really capable of achieving! If I were a senior in college looking to work in entertainment… * Realize that getting a career started can be very difficult, but you can take steps now to make it easier. *  I’d think about looking for a spring internship as those are great ways to launch careers. * I’d look for those amazing positions that start next summer but are open to soon to be grads and current students to apply to. I called those #opentograds and previously posted on them. (They’re amazing!) * I’d realize college work and internships can be key for a career, but that first good job or two will likely mean more for your career than any prior work does. * Work outside of entertainment during college can mean more to a future employer than you may think. * I’d reach out now and ask people for advice. My best advice is to ask others for advice, and that’s a great way to build a network. * I’d have a good idea of what I wanted to do for a career but be flexible on what you would do. Careers are very organic, and you may soon find you’re doing a job you’ve never heard out. *  I’d take more pictures with friends. I’m still shocked how many people I never saw again after college. * I’d think about travelling after graduation. You may be glad you did later. I am! * I’d enjoy college! Dear students, When applying for internships or job opportunities, it's important to follow the instructions provided by the recruiter and reach out to them on the designated email address.
