But behind the scenes, ground staff are the unsung heroes, ensuring smooth operations and seamless passenger experiences. Who are the Ground Staff? Ground staff include ticketing agents, baggage handlers, security personnel, and ramp agents. They’re the first point of contact for passengers, responsible for check-ins, boarding, and more. Their work is fast-paced, requiring quick decision-making and great communication. Key Responsibilities: 1. Check-in & Boarding: Managing check-ins, boarding passes, and seating arrangements. 2. Baggage Handling: Ensuring luggage is correctly tagged and loaded. 3. Passenger Assistance: Helping passengers with special needs and queries. 4. Security Checks: Supporting security protocols and luggage screening. 5. Aircraft Preparation: Preparing the aircraft for departure. My Experience: During my internship at Mangaluru International Airport, I saw the importance of ground staff firsthand, especially their coordination and problem-solving during peak times. They ensure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. Ritz Carlton chain of hotels are best known for their great service and equally more so for their training and learning programs . Indeed, they are known for setting the "Gold Standards " in hospitality . Imagine, on the first day , when you join as a trainee, no less than the director of training and development warmly greets you , with a statement , " You are a GIFT. We are lucky to have you here ." What is the kind of feeling you have as a trainee? Wouldnt you be loyal to the brand ? Wouldnt you go out of the way to make the guests feel "very very important" because somebody has made you feel " so so important " on the first day of your joining ? Indeed so. Another share. All the trainees are asked to say the word "No" on the first day of joining, as part of the orientation.The trainees obey and say so .They are asked to say it again. And then the traineees are told that this was the last time they used the word NO in the hotel , and also possibly in their personal lives. The trainees may have to say that something will take a while or that it may cost a bit more. But they can’t make a guest feel good by saying NO. "Ladies and gentlemen ( as the trainees and all employees are addressed) , people do not come to RITZ CARLTON hotel to sleep in the guest rooms. They want an experience.
