Candidate Sourcing Specialist - Networking with Insurance and Financial Service Industry Professionals and Connecting Job Seekers with Potential Employers
This month marks my 5th year with The Schoenwetter Recruiting Network! Before I fell into recruiting, I was in the restaurant industry. As a server and bartender, I loved the fast-paced hustle, the flexibility, and, most importantly, the friendships I made with my teammates. I thought I'd spend my career in hospitality and someday open my own bar and restaurant. But, as the years went by, something began to creep in: burnout. I started having more and more "server nightmares", my nights were filled with scenarios of being overwhelmed and underprepared in a chaotic and stressful restaurant. Initially, I brushed them off as a normal part of the job – after all, every bartender and server had their own version of these dreams, right? It wasn't until a conversation with a friend that I had my wake-up call. I was telling her about my latest server nightmares, her response was simple but eye-opening. She said, "You have nightmares about your job? I've never had a nightmare about mine." That was the moment I knew I needed a change. And so, I entered my Recruiter Era! It's been an incredible journey filled with growth, challenges, and most importantly, fulfillment. As I celebrate this milestone, I'm reminded of the power of listening to our instincts and having the courage to pursue new opportunities when our current path no longer serves us. So, if your dream job is starting to feel more like a nightmare, know that you're not alone. Reach out, and let's work together to find a better opportunity that aligns with your passions and aspirations. Here's to the next chapter! 🚀 #WorkAnniversary #CareerJourney #NewOpportunities

Subway Options 🥖🥪.... Today, the majority of the office were munching on Subway sandwiches, a tempting lunchtime meal for many. Yet, amidst the multitude of options, I found myself thinking about the concept of choice – a common thread that weaves through both lunchtime decisions and life's larger dilemmas. As an internal recruiter, I'm no stranger to the many paths individuals navigate in their careers. Just like selecting toppings for a sandwich, choosing the right job opportunity can be overwhelming. Do you stick to the familiar or try something new? In the midst of this Subway spread, it dawned on me: life presents us with choices, big and small. Whether it's crafting the perfect sandwich or seeking fulfillment in your career, the decision-making process can be daunting. But unlike at Subway, where you're left to navigate the options alone, I'm here to guide you 😁. At Albion Rye Associates, I'm committed to helping you find the perfect fit – a role that aligns with your skills, passions, and ambitions. Just as I assist in matching the right ingredients to create a delicious sandwich, I'm dedicated to pairing you with opportunities that resonate with your professional aspirations. So, whether you prefer to stick with the tried and true or embrace the thrill of something new, remember that you're not alone in your journey. You might've just stepped out of the PATH station at Exchange Place in Jersey City, NJ and have your head down. But, you'd miss something. Come up from out of the escalator and walk towards the Hudson River and take a look at this in the courtyard. In the darkest moments of the winter and the short days and even when they are longer and winter decides to give use one last punch to the face, we can get down. Our heads are all staring at our shoes and not up. We neglect to look in that one other direction we haven't yet and see this. Some say job searching is a numbers game. We have tunnel vision into one particular thing and repeat. However when I think to the last 3 jobs I have had, they were attained in non mechanized ways. One interview I had was in the employer's car. Another interview I had was in a Dunkin Donuts and the job was not at Dunkin Donuts. The third interview I had was in the employer's farmhouse. Each time I got the position at the end of the interview. This is because each employer observed the "keep it simple" method. I have more than 1,000 connections on here and as I go through the names, I know that some have sadly died over the 13 years I have been on LinkedIn. I understand why I haven't conversed with them in awhile. But for the rest of us, we should be talking at least periodically. There's a hashtag for making new connections on Saturday. How about one for rejuvenating existing connections. It might be one of you who knows someone and we can help each other out. #Westchester #NYC #MediaRelations #FairfieldCT

What is the purpose of your job? That was the single question on a survey we asked 2,500 bartenders and servers. The responses were a wild ride. From crafting great cocktails to being the host of the party, from providing great service to making customers feel comfortable. As we sifted through the responses, a curious pattern emerged—or rather, the lack thereof. Even co-workers had vastly different responses. It became clear that the vast majority hadn't been told the purpose of their job, instead they were simply told what key tasks they were responsible for. In the midst of this survey-induced revelation, I reminisced about my own front-of-house team. Our purpose was our obsession: Convert customers into raving fans. Our purpose led our job interviews, dictated our induction program and was our primary motivation in everything we did. In an industry where 8/10 fail, clarity is key. It's hard to emerge victorious when your team isn't armed with a clear understanding of their purpose. Now, anyone can slap a purpose on a wall; bringing it to life, that's the real challenge. Stay tuned for my next post, where I'll share how we breathed life into our purpose and achieved our goals.

When I put out an open interview call, I did not expect this. In the 28-odd years of working across kitchens, one thing has always bugged me: how the restaurant industry has been labelled “toxic” and “harsh”. While there are nuances to the topic, when I started my entrepreneurial journey - all I wanted was to create a new work culture. A culture where we work together as a diverse team of men, women, young, old, experienced, trainees - a good, balanced bunch. Over the years, I have acknowledged the ground reality of how the industry works: inconsistent hiring, lack of transparency in the process, and a general sense of disrespect to the candidates, and taking them for granted. I want to do my part in changing it. Since this was an open interview call - we could not have predicted the number of candidates. We were expecting a candidate pool of about 250-300, but to my surprise, the final count was upwards of 1000! All we could have done was make sure we had a solid plan: - A 25-member organizing team was set up. - Created a complete registration process with QR code access. (separate for all the departments: Chefs, Service, Accounts, Housekeeping) - Quick shortlisting process so that people don’t have to wait on a hot day. - 2 rounds of interviews with Senior management. This was not an easy task at all: all my teammates were at the venue by 5 AM, making sure everything was in place before the candidates came in. They made sure that all queries were answered and accommodated till the very last interview wrapped up at 6 in the evening. All of this would not have been possible without my team. I am extremely thankful to all of them - and to every single candidate who showed up for the interview. For people who get into the RCP family, looking forward to working with you soon, and for people who might not make it - we will be prioritising you for all our upcoming projects. Keep trying, and don’t give up! If a 17-year-old kid with no college degree can make it, so can you. Just make sure you believe in yourself: the dots will connect somehow. As always, keep spreading happiness!💕 - Chef Pillai. #Restaurants #Hospitality #Hiring #Recruitment
