Many homegrown Atlanta Big Law firms saw their rankings fall among more than 200 firms nationally for creation of more racially and ethnically diverse workforces in 2023, according to The American Lawyer’s annual Diversity Scorecard. Rankings declined for minorities’ share of overall law firm head count and leadership at Alston & Bird; FisherBroyles; Freeman Mathis & Gary; King & Spalding; Morris, Manning & Martin; Smith, Gambrell & Russell; and Troutman Pepper Hamilton Sanders. A firm from outside the Southeast with a large Atlanta office, Seyfarth Shaw, also dropped in the Scorecard rankings when 2023 was compared to 2022, according to ALM data. The Leadership Circle in Mexico, hosted by Lexington Consultants and CM Murray LLP, brought together over 80 law firm leaders to discuss the challenge of defining success within the partnership model. Our faculty members Zulon Begum, Moray McLaren, Stephen Revell and Mari Cruz Taboada presented data from recent research on the role of the salaried partner and introduced the following questions: 🔸 What are the challenges with the traditional partnership model in law firms? 🔸 What are the implications of introducing or expanding salaried partner roles in law firms? 🔸 How can firms ensure that salaried partners are contributing to profitability and firm growth? 🔸 How do clients view law firm compensation models, particularly in relation to teamwork and collaboration?
