As a Londoner, I’m a huge fan of urban greening and SUGi are leading the charge in this space. In London alone in the last 3 years they have now created 25 of their Myiwaki mini forests! 🌳🌳🌳 In this photo you can see the incredible heat protection their mini-forests provide. This location is their London Southbank Forest by the river Thames…in some places the trees achieve a 25 degrees celsius cooling difference! ❄️ 🇯🇵 A Miyawaki forest is a dense, native forest created using the Miyawaki method by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki. This technique involves planting a diverse mix of native species closely together, promoting rapid growth and high biodiversity. These forests mature in 20-30 years, much faster than the 200 years traditional forests take. As temperatures in cities around the world rise to new highs, trees and urban forests provide a critical solution to mitigate this new unprecedented challenge. 10 Reasons to Love Urban Miyawaki Forests: 🌍 Sequesters Carbon: Absorbs CO2, combating climate change 🌱 Boosts Soil Health: Improves soil structure and water retention. 📈 Rapid Growth: Quickly provides environmental and social benefits. 🌳 Aesthetic Appeal: Beautifies urban areas, enhancing visual appeal. 🌬️ Improves Air Quality: Filters pollutants and reduces urban pollution. 🌿 Enhances Biodiversity: Supports diverse plants, insects, and wildlife. 🌡️ Regulates Temperature: Provides shade, reduces urban heat islands. 🏡 Increases Property Value: Proximity to green spaces boosts property values. 😊 Promotes Mental Health: Green spaces reduce stress & enhance well-being. 🤝 Encourages Community: Fosters participation & cooperation among residents. Keep up the great work SUGi and many congratulations to you Elise Van Middelem, James Godfrey-Faussett and the rest of the team on reaching this milestone! 🙌 (Credit: SUGi) #Miyawaki #UrbanForest #London
