This is such a useful report, even for #associations that don't see themselves necessarily as B2B or B2C. Many associations view thought leadership as the core of their value propositions - hearing from your peers and other experts about suggestions that work, pitfalls to avoid, and the solutions no one else has tried yet. What I think hasn't quite made it to much of the association world is quantifying the impact of your thought leadership. We do thought leadership because we've done it for 100 years. Providing thought leadership is one of the bedrock reasons that associations exist: to help like-minded peers and colleagues solve shared challenges through innovation and new ideas. ▫ But it should also help you with your content-gating strategy: what goes behind or in front of the membership paywall? What do we share with potential members for recruitment purposes? ▫ It should help you with your budgeting strategy: how many employees do we need to create and promote our thought leadership? How important is it to purchase software to help create original thought leadership? ▫ And naturally, it should help you with your content strategy: what's going to make the most impact for our members, stakeholders, and the public? How do we quantify that impact? Thought leadership isn't just a cost center - it can have an incredible ROI.
