📣  Workshop on “Assessing health system performance on access, efficiency, and quality: a focus on primary care in Luxembourg and other European countries.” 📅 7 March, 2024 in Campus Belval #Luxembourg ⚕  This workshop will present the main results of the APPEAL project, which investigated the individual and #healthsystem factors associated with access, efficiency and quality of care, with a particular focus on primary care, using data from Luxembourg and other European countries. Conclusion of the Paris and COVID Summit – Charting the Future of Global Health Introduction As our enlightening five-day summit concludes, our panel of young, dynamic doctors from around the world, including Dr. Sophie from France, Dr. Ngozi from Nigeria, Dr. Chen from China, Dr. Priya from India, Dr. John from the USA, Dr. Dwayne from Jamaica, and Dr. Timmy from the UK, come together to share their vision for the future of global health. They focus on proactive strategies and innovative solutions that could redefine healthcare delivery globally. Global Health Framework Dr. Sophie leads by reflecting on the summit's insights and emphasizing the need for a robust global health framework capable of withstanding future pandemics and health crises. She highlights how France's handling of the Olympics will inform broader European health initiatives prioritizing rapid response and collaborative resource sharing. Innovative Approaches Dr. Ngozi, detailing Nigeria’s strides, discusses how African nations are adopting community-driven strategies and digital tools to enhance healthcare accessibility and responsiveness, particularly through mobile health applications. Dr. Chen provides insight into China’s commitment to bolstering healthcare infrastructure and integrating AI to predict and manage disease outbreaks, offering a model that combines big data and predictive analytics in public health strategy. Cross-Border Collaboration Dr. Priya and Dr. John briefly mentioned   the critical role of cross-border collaboration in medical research and public health policymaking. They stress that global health challenges require global solutions and that sharing resources and knowledge is essential for worldwide health security. Dr. Timmy discusses the UK’s approach to integrating innovative health technologies with traditional healthcare practices, focusing on creating adaptable and scalable public health strategies that can be tailored to meet local needs effectively. Holistic Health Dr. Dwayne touches on how integrating traditional and modern medicine can provide comprehensive and culturally competent healthcare solutions, as seen in Jamaica and other Caribbean nations and in Africa. Dr Dwayne also mentioned that this concept  is gaining groundswell through holistic medical practice.   The need to empower individuals to take more responsibility for  maintaining good health rather than focus mainly on treatment of ill health was agreed by all. A team of 50 leading international experts, The Lancet Commission on Investing in Health (CIH), including BCEPS Director and Professor Ole F. Norheim (University of Bergen), PhD Research Fellow Sarah Bolongaita, and BCEPS-affiliated researchers Angela Chang (Danish Institute for Advanced Study (DIAS), Syddansk Universitet - University of Southern Denmark), Dean T. Jamison (University of California, San Francisco), Stéphane Verguet (Harvard University), and David Watkins, MD, MPH (University of Washington) explored this question. Report on the inaugural meeting of the Strategic Partners’ Initiative for Data and Digital Health: Copenhagen, Denmark, 13 June 2024 This report summarizes the proceedings, key statements and opinions of the speakers of the inaugural meeting of the Strategic Partners’ Initiative for Data and Digital Health (‎SPI-DDH)‎, which took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 13 June 2024. The meeting convened a diverse group of stakeholders working on the digital health agenda from across the WHO European Region, including representatives of public and private sectors, non-State actors, academia, civil society and the international community. Participants were presented with a vision for the future of digitally transformed health systems in the Region, together with an overview of the process under which the SPI-DDH will function. Thereafter, work was undertaken in thematic working groups, allowing participants to provide input to an initial scoping of topics, and to propose products/outputs that the working groups would like to develop over the coming months under the Initiative. What is reciprocal innovation? A new article series in BMJ Global Health highlights examples, successes and challenges in the exchange of innovations between low/middle-income and high-income countries. Supported by Fogarty and NIH partners: https://lnkd.in/etPV2ewn MORE ABOUT THE SERIES The series of articles focuses on examples of innovation first developed in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and then applied to address similar health concerns in high-income countries (HICs). HIC settings have much to learn from health innovations in LMICs—a reality that has been obscured by a global health system and culture that has not historically viewed LMICs as originators of innovation. Although much of the research on transferring innovations described in this series was not co-developed, multidirectional and iterative, the authors seek to draw attention to the underappreciated fact that important and efficacious innovations are developed in LMICs, that their impact can be extended and adapted to address health challenges in HICs, and that the information exchanged through iterative research and learning cycles can benefit both LMIC and HIC partners. #GlobalHealth #ReciprocalInnovation
