I understand the cost cutting and responding to market forces, but there needs to be some form of balance to retain proper governance, especially given we have so much disinformation and grooming of kids in gaming to turn them into criminals and being manipulated and used by nation states, especially Russia, who has been most effective in targeting gamers. https://lnkd.in/eNRQ5KJc #tech #governance #riskmanagemt

Don’t be morally bankrupt when it comes to sexism in gaming. There are dozens of studios doing underhand tactics like sexist ads, or even those that polarise domestic abuse, which are categorically wrong. Thank you to Mariam Ahmad and Gamesforum for shining a light on this and asking me my opinion on this really important matter. Equally, all of us in the industry need to contribute to stamping this out, this is the studios making the ads, the networks running the ads and even the OS providers like Apple and Google allowing them to run. Supporting and amplifying. The game industry does indeed need a wake up call. Maybe this is it? Sponsors, developers, publishers and platforms cannot reward bad behaviour. Its time to pull the plug on toxic streamers. And where does this start? With streaming platforms. This isn't "Minority Report". This is simply Trust & Safety. This is player moderation and content moderation. If a player or streamer harasses, grooms, threatens, doxes, or does other behavior that breaks terms of service, is illegal, or threatens player safety, especially for minors, that platform must act. This is basic policing of users. No streamers should be above the law. Promotional contracts don't protect streamers from the consequences of bad behaviour. Apply the rules and regulations equally. And if someone breaks the law, report them to law enforcement. This is not hard, Twitch. Learn from YouTube?
New from me: Dr Disrespect sent explicit messages to a minor—likely because he was high on his own fumes and thought there would be no consequences for his actions. He had every reason to think that! Sponsors and developers kept wanting to work with him despite years of toxic behavior. His harmful actions were a warning sign, not just performance. There are other streamers behaving the same way as we speak. The games industry doesn't have to reward them for being assholes. #gamesindustry #gaming #streamers #contentcreators
Opinion: Dr Disrespect's ousting should be a wake-up call for devs
