Diasorin is proud to create awareness of CMV along with the National CMV Foundation who are at the forefront of CMV education. Did you know that congenital CMV (cCMV) is the most common infectious cause of birth defects in the US and that one out of five babies with congenital CMV will develop long-term health problems, such as hearing loss? Diasorin has assays that can support a physician’s diagnosis in two ways: The mother: The LIAISON® CMV assay panel (IgG, IgM) is a complete solution to aid clinicians in patient assessment of CMV. The diagnosis of Human Cytomegalovirus infection in pregnant women is of particular importance in assessing risk of fetal damage. The baby: Diasorin’s Simplexa® Congenital CMV Direct assay is the only FDA-cleared PCR assay for the detection of CMV in both saliva swabs and urine. PCR testing in the first 3 weeks of life can aid in determining if an infant has congenital CMV. An early diagnosis allows for prompt treatment of hearing loss and provides an opportunity for early intervention for better health outcomes. Join the movement #hearthedifference with Diasorin as we do our part to ensure that babies get a chance to live healthy and happy lives and visit our website to learn more: https://hubs.li/Q02CV8bV0 https://hubs.li/Q02CV2t30 #Diasorin #Diagnostictesting #congenitalCMV #CMV

Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) refers to medical diagnostic testing performed at or near the site of patient care. These tests are designed to provide immediate results, allowing for rapid decision-making regarding patient management. POCT is commonly used in various settings, including hospitals, clinics, emergency departments, and even at home. Examples of POCT include blood glucose monitoring, rapid strep tests, and home pregnancy tests. Key benefits of POCT include: 1. Rapid Results: Immediate feedback allows for quicker clinical decisions. 2. Convenience: Testing can be done at the bedside, in a clinic, or at home. 3. Improved Patient Outcomes: Faster diagnosis and treatment can improve patient outcomes and satisfaction. 4. Reduced Hospital Visits: Certain POCT can be performed outside of traditional healthcare settings, reducing the need for hospital visits. However, POCT also has challenges such as ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the tests, proper training for personnel, and managing the cost of devices and reagents. This presentation is derived from Chapter 30 of the book 'laboratory medicine nader rifai' #TUMS #University_Of_Tehran #Immunochemistry #point_of_care_testing #poct

April 19 is Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Awareness Day. Here are some key points to consider: * CDH affects 1 in 2,500 babies worldwide, making it a fairly common birth defect. * The defect occurs when the diaphragm fails to fully close during fetal development, allowing abdominal organs to move into the chest cavity. * CDH can lead to serious respiratory and gastrointestinal complications, requiring immediate medical attention upon birth. * Organizations like CDH International and Cherubs - The Association of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Research, Awareness and Support provide vital resources and support to families affected by CDH. * Let's raise awareness and support those affected by CDH on April 19. Together, we can make a difference. Join the conversation by sharing your experiences, spreading awareness, or connecting with organisations dedicated to helping families affected by CDH. Excited to share some insights from the latest ISUOG guideline on the assessment of fetal biometry and growth! According to the guidelines, LGA fetuses are typically defined as those with estimated fetal weight (EFW) or abdominal circumference (AC) above the 90th percentile. On the other hand, macrosomia at term is usually referred to as a weight above a fixed cut-off of 4000 or 4500 g. This information can be crucial in monitoring fetal growth and ensuring optimal delivery outcomes for both mother and baby. Stay informed and stay ahead in your practice! #ISUOG #fetalbiometry #growthassessment #maternalhealth

In a concerning medical development, ten children with prenatal fentanyl exposure present a baffling new syndrome. This condition is marked by growth delays, distinctive birth defects, and feeding issues, raising alarms in the healthcare community. The link between fentanyl exposure and the syndrome remains unclear, challenging doctors and researchers to unravel this medical enigma. The diversity in symptoms and the absence of prenatal care in some cases add to the investigative hurdles. Despite these challenges, the urgency is palpable, especially after one affected infant's life ended at just three months. This syndrome, distinct from known conditions like Smith-Lemli-Opitz and fetal alcohol syndrome, emphasizes the importance of educating expectant individuals on the risks of illicit fentanyl use and promoting comprehensive prenatal care. As medical professionals forge ahead in their quest for clarity, the goal is to enhance outcomes for those impacted by this perplexing syndrome. Our collective focus on awareness, research, and collaboration serves as a beacon of hope for resolving the mysteries that remain. I invite you to share your thoughts on the implications of this discovery and the steps we can take to mitigate such risks. #MedicalMystery #FentanylSyndrome #HealthcareCommunity Original article: https://lnkd.in/eArNy6DM
