We are in the planning stages for the 14th National Innovative Communities Conference, and we can't wait to see what exciting initiatives are developed based on what those in attendance discuss and learn. Eleven years ago, the NICC inspired the founders of the city of Jurupa Valley to launch their Healthy City initiative, Healthy Jurupa Valley. What is Healthy Jurupa Valley? **** HJV is part of a global movement of healthy city initiatives that work to improve the health and quality of life of all residents. Healthy Jurupa Valley is a public/private partnership between the City of Jurupa Valley and the nonprofit agency Reach Out. The mission is to inspire residents to ignite change, bringing greater health, safety, and quality of life to everyone in the city. The initiatives we've undertaken in the past decade are far-reaching, and the impacts are broad. ✅ Through the efforts of this initiative, HJV has increased green space, community gardens, and awareness of substance abuse issues and vaccine availability. ✅ We've held leadership academies to empower community members to become leaders and share resources. ✅ We've created "Shop the Walk" events to drive connection between local business and the community, and hosted face-to-face meetings with elected officials to allow them to meet the community members they represent. Health represents so much more than physical well-being, and the HJV initiative has grown community connection, safety, and well-being in immeasurable ways. We can't wait to bring this program to more Inland Empire cities! #NICC #innovativecommunities #communitydevelopment #HealthyJurupaValley #healthycityinitiative #bluezones

Helping communities live healthier lives is one of the most pressing and complex challenges of our time. It crosses many socioeconomic factors, organisations and sectors. Thanks to National Lottery players and our programme partnership with The King's Fund, Healthy Communities Together has awarded £2.6 million to five cross-sector partnerships to tackle this challenge across the country, from Coventry to Croydon. Today, our evaluation partner Cordis Bright has published a ‘system map’ to share partners’ findings about what factors help and hinder partnership working towards this goal. The findings include these priorities for organisations and individuals, among many others: 🧑🤝🧑Prioritising interpersonal relationships and acknowledging historical power dynamics so we can address them 🚀Moving from transactional to transformational funding relationships 🤝Committing to deep partnership working We’re committed to transforming health, wellbeing and health equality outcomes across the country. If you know us, you’ll know we are passionate about preventative approaches to health, and we believe the voluntary and community sector (VCS) are best placed to address many of the root causes of the issues that affect communities the most. ❤️🩹 So, you can imagine how thrilled we are to be part of MyEnds: a London-wide programme that empowers grassroots organisations taking hyper-local and preventative approaches to support young people at risk or affected by violence, delivered by London's Violence Reduction Unit. 🧩 Over the past few months, CSC has been facilitating workshops with 9 borough-based consortiums* funded by MyEnds to co-produce Community Needs Assessments (CNA). Through the process, we've worked with over 100 youth practitioners to understand how they can leverage community assets (e.g. statutory and VCS partners, key infrastructures, community spaces) and open-source data to maximise the impact of their interventions. *Boroughs include Barking & Dagenham, Brent, Croydon, Haringey, Islington, Lambeth, Lewisham, Southwark, and Tower Hamlets. 📊 The outputs of the CNA include site-level reports and a digital mapping tool developed with our technical partner, plinth. Once finalised, we will hand over the tool to the consortiums to own and update over the two-year delivery period. 💫 We're loving our role nourishing creative partnerships between grassroots organisations. Grassroots organisations are the best (read our blog on why here: https://lnkd.in/dqFZAVym) and when they come together, it’s magic 💫 ❤️ Like if you agree that grassroots organisations need to be supported and leveraged across all contexts!

Your input as well as the participation of the rest of our colleagues, specially those who are part of the Health and Social Care sector is key at this point, when we are looking at building an understanding of how the VCSE sector contributes to the development and delivery of health and social care services. Our aim with this project is to unite and utilise the collective expertise of VCSE Health and Social Care Organisations, so that we can work effectively in partnership with the DoH and improve health outcomes in NI. It is very important to build a clear baseline, and it's not possible without your support. So thank you! In case you are part of the Health and Social Care sector and you haven't had the chance to participate, please get involved. We need your help.
