Well done to Tayla Lindsey and Studio Pacific Architecture for taking a lead here. There is much confusion across the building sector on "WHAT" to report and "HOW" to report it, in the Sustainability field. LCA, BPIR, EPD. LBC, Greenstar/Homestar and Nabers, all feature in this space and as a manufacturer and supplier, we need to answers for ALL of them. Some information crosses over and in other cases can be very specific to a particular project. Having an advocate within the practice makes the information flow better, and helps the design teams ask for the right information from us.

As one of EDR's first Research Fellows in 2012, Corey Squire, AIA helped formalize many of the sustainability initiatives within the firm, penning a guide we still reference today called the "Sustainability Action Plan." Now, he's written "People Planet Design: A Practical Guide to Realizing Architecture’s Potential" to guide others on "transformative human-centered architecture." 🌱 It was wonderful to give a lecture and host a workshop on the Circular Economy and Collective Climate Action for Architects in the School of Architecture at University of Limerick on Monday. 🌱In the lecture we looked at topics such as: 🌿 Architecture Climate Action Network (ACAN) 🌿 Design for Adaptability 🌿 Design for Deconstruction 🌿 Circular Material Selection including using platforms such as the Construction Materials Exchange (CMEx) as a way to reduce the carbon impact in the construction industry 🌿 Cradle to Cradle certification 🌿 The health benefits of using natural materials in buildings 🌿 Mindfulness in relation to using resources eg. reducing water, energy and soil 🌱 In the workshop, each student took a design project they were working on and embedded circularity principles that were mentioned in the lecture using the Regenerate Tool. 🌱 The Regenerate tool is a circular economy tool created by the University of Sheffield with help from AECOM.
