Vienna has highlighted itself as a premier conference destination, hosting a #record 6,500 congresses and corporate events in 2023, a 49% increase over the previous year and 18% more than the record-setting year of 2019. With these events resulting in 1,591,000 overnight stays — a 34% increase from 2022 — Vienna's success in revitalising its conference sector post-pandemic is evident.   In a significant move demonstrating the commitment to #sustainability and industry support, the Stadt Wien has continued the extension of the #ViennaMeetingFund with an additional €4 million investment for the period 2025-2028.   From 2025, the maximum funding from the Vienna Meeting Fund of 60,000 euros available per event, will require the event to be held as a #GreenMeeting or #EcoEvent. This week Dineke Philipse, association manager at CLC-VECTA Centrum voor Live Communication, reflects on the question what she thinks needs to happen to be successful in the industry.   “Within the Dutch events industry working together is one of our main goals. So far we are successful in doing so, but with the many challenges we are facing today, like sustainability, digitalization, rising costs for materials and labor and finally a tight labor market, the need of collaboration is can no longer be denied. I am convinced that if we work together even more and smarter within the chain, we can make more and faster steps to meet these challenges. By sharing knowledge, learning from each other, inspiring each other, and investing in mutual understanding, you can not only achieve more than at an individual level but also create a solid foundation for a more futureproof industry. However, proactive measures like the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System (CFCFRMS) and the '1930' financial cyber fraud helpline saved Rs 1,127 crore, showcasing the power of timely intervention. Despite facing delays in restitution, efforts are underway to streamline processes, with legal frameworks evolving to expedite recovery. Moreover, international cooperation is paramount, with 40-50% of complaints involving actors from abroad, particularly China, Cambodia, and Myanmar. 🇩🇪 Germany: The threat level remains high, with cybercrimes by foreign perpetrators rising by 28% in 2023, continuing a concerning trend. Notably, Russian hackers have been implicated in attacks, underscoring the severity of the situation. However, Germany stands firm in its resolve to protect democracy and support global cybersecurity efforts. Both nations are leveraging advanced techniques and collaboration between law enforcement agencies and organizations to combat cyber threats.
