A second great day at Adfest in Thailand. Unlike some creative festivals, Adfest seems to encourage speakers who ask questions rather than having all the answers. Pooja Manek Of Talented from India, (in the picture) asks, why are cookbooks always written for one person to cook the meal? (and what does this tell us about gender role assumptions in India?) How performing arts shaped my career as a Founder. Lots of people talk about running and the headspace it gives them to progress as a Founder. I’ve never really been a runner - throughout my youth I was a theatre kid! Today, that is one of the lasting influences on myself as a Founder. Despite my immigrant parents wanting me to pursue more traditional career paths, they supported my endeavours to be on the stage alongside my studies so long as it didn’t disrupt my grades - and so acting and singing (amateur) in school musicals and pantomimes became my hobby. Roles I held growing up range from ‘Nun 4’ in the Sound of Music all the way through to ‘Prostitute 3’ in Les Miserables. Jokes aside, performing arts has played a big role in shaping my entrepreneurial style and skillset - here’s how. 1️⃣. 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠: Every performance was an opportunity to craft narratives that can captivate an audience, a skill that has served me well in articulating the vision and mission of luna when pitching to investors or in front of large audiences. 2️⃣. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Each role required me to embody different personas, understand diverse perspectives, and articulate emotions effectively. This ability to empathise and communicate has been fundamental in fostering connections with team members, investors, and of course our customers. 3️⃣. 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲: In my role leading Marketing and our Social Channels, we’re always being creative in the way that we translate somewhat taboo topics to be things that young people want to engage with - plus I never shy away from featuring on a TikTok where I can.. 4️⃣. 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Forgetting lines on stage taught me to think on my feet and adapt to ever-changing circumstances and unplanned situations – skills that have proven invaluable in the fast-paced world of startups, especially on live pitches! 5️⃣. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: I learned to channel nervous energy into my performances and performing in front of 100s of people really helped build up my confidence. So in 2024, I may not be the lead role in Hamilton but I’m definitely bringing elements of that theatre life to my Founder role at luna! #femalefounder #founder #tech #theatrekid
