💭 Did you know that despite the most progress made since 2010, the domain of #power still remains the lowest-scoring domain overall at 59.1 points? 📌 According to the Gender Equality Index 2023, women are still outnumbered by men in decision-making bodies across the EU. And men are more likely to participate in political activities than women.  🗳 As we gear up for the next European Parliament elections in 2024, the persistent underrepresentation of women in politics remains a cause for concern.     👉 Check out the link below to discover the score of the power domain in your country and join us in the fight for gender equality. 

To do list: ✅ Live your DEI policies - invest in them ✅ Listen to the women around you - believe what they tell you. They will be giving you the sanitised version as it is, so don’t downplay it further. ✅ Hold anyone making pledges or displaying allyship publically to account. ✅ Call out blatant hypocrisy, especially from men as we all know it isn’t #allmen, but those are the ones giving the rest of you a bad rep. Tell them to do better. To not do list: ❌ Pink and purple rubbish - just.. ick. ❌ Performative anything. Invest the cash doing meaningful stuff, or just save the pennies because it will make no less difference. Sadly that includes the cupcakes. Simple 🙌🏼

As we look ahead to Women's Day in 2024, it's important to recognize the continued importance of this day in promoting gender equality and celebrating the achievements of women around the world. Despite progress in recent years, women still face significant barriers to equality in areas such as education, employment, and political representation. Women's Day provides an opportunity to raise awareness of these issues and to advocate for change. Moreover, Women's Day serves as a reminder of the contributions that women have made to society throughout history. From political leaders and activists to scientists and artists, women have played a vital role in shaping our world. Looking ahead, we must continue to support and empower women in all areas of life. March is Women’s History Month, a time to commemorate and celebrate the vital role of women in American history. It’s also a time for reflection and consideration about how we can continue to make progress in the fight for gender equality. There are still issues like the gender pay gap and lack of female leadership at the top of organizations. Now’s a good time to join the movement and raise awareness of these issues. Seek out women to partner with, mentor and raise up if you’re in a position to do so. It may be as simple as making a point to buy goods and services from women-owned businesses. There also may be nonprofit organizations in your area that serve women or act as good examples for girls you can join. If you want to make it even more personal, consider writing a note – letter, email or social media post – to the women in your life who’ve inspired you. 

Tomorrow we're inviting our community to an International Women's Day breakfast at May Park in Horsham. This year’s International Women’s Day theme is ‘Inspire Inclusion’ and we thought what better way to demonstrate our commitment to inclusiveness than opening up our celebrations to the community. We’re celebrating women in our organisation. And we're celebrating the progress we’ve made towards gender equality, having recently submitted a report to the Commission for Gender Equality in the Public Sector. We’re proud of our achievements since our first gender audit in 2021. GWMWater’s representation of women in leadership roles (Executive and Manager level) grew 18% between 2021 and 2023. Representation of women on the organisation’s Board of Directors rose 14% in the same period. In terms of gender pay gap, men were paid on average 16% more than women (average base wage) in 2021. This closed to just 3% in 2023. We've worked hard to achieve these results through range of initiatives and strategies, and we look forward to acknowledging our work in this space tomorrow with our community. #InternationalWomensDay2024 #InspireInclusion

Men often have power and influence over the lives of women in their workplaces and communities, so engaging men in women's empowerment initiatives is important. Men can interact with empowered women in a variety of ways, including: >Actively listen to women's perspectives and encourage them to speak their minds. >Learn about the women's rights movement and gender equality. >Challenge gender norms and stereotypes.  >Speak up if you notice something wrong, like a woman being interrupted or inappropriate comments being made. >Be a role model for equality, fairness, and mutual respect. >Always treat women with respect, honor, and kindness.

Sometimes, men don’t know what to do to be allies to women in the workplace – but if we show them HOW – it makes a huge difference. Here is something men can do to be allies to women in the workplace: Recognize and Leverage Your Influence First and foremost, acknowledge the platform you have. Men, particularly those in positions of authority, wield significant influence. It's vital to use this influence to advocate for policies and practices that promote gender equality. This means not just opening doors for women into leadership roles but also ensuring those doors stay wide open for others to follow. Want to learn more? The celebration continues throughout Women’s History Month to recognize the contributions and achievements of women throughout history. Try these! 1) Take time to learn about influential women or attend an event that delves into women’s achievements to understand their stories. 2) Support women-owned businesses. 3) Be a mentor or role model to women or girls in your life and demonstrate that gender equality matters to you. 4) Be sure to acknowledge the women, both personally and professionally, who have enriched your life.
