Development Strategies’ Post

While as innovative in product as most industries, construction has had some of the lowest increases in productivity over the past 50 years primarily because of the need for on-site, hands-on involvement. Without taking the worker out of the equation, CASSETTE is a company innovating by bringing most of the construction into the factory, to take advantage of the productivity strides that manufacturing has seen while construction has been on the sidelines. In June, Brad Beggs participated in a conference where Cassette's founder and CEO, Dafna Kaplan, highlighted her firm's mission to address the housing crisis by reducing the cost of multifamily construction by 30 percent in three years while also doubling the speed of production. By paralleling production in a factory while site preparation is underway, quality improves while less time is spent—a better quality product means a higher achievable rent, and quicker delivery means faster return on investment. #housing #innovation
