It only takes one match to make an explosion. Martin Rapaport is a living example of the impact one person can have on the pace and trajectory of an entire industry. I first heard about the Rapaport Price list in 1995, when I got my first job in the industry. It struck me back then how remarkable it was that a single person impacted the way our industry operates, irreversibly, and in perpetuity. It took one human with a vision of creating trade pricing transparency, who had the willpower and the team to make it a reality, and then, could stand the knocks - and death threats(!) - he would take over his long, influential career. Martin is considered one of the most authoritative people in the diamond industry. He influences the global market and is the reason why diamonds with similar attributes cost the same in Singapore as they do in San Francisco. And my team and I had the pleasure of working with him and his tenacious team for almost one year. He shares my belief that the way you polish a diamond is with another diamond. And the way you get good ideas is by dealing with other people that have good ideas. That our interaction was able to contribute to Martin's continuous path of learning and growing and understanding of underpinning business strategy with marketing, is something I am very proud of.
