Did you know that applying for the largest scholarship out there is not the easiest or smartest way to get aid for school? Large corporations offering scholarships are flooded with individuals seeking scholarships that shell out big money, while many smaller, more local scholarships are often overlooked. If you start early and spend time researching places in your own backyard, like your local community foundations, you can often find scholarships available that will help begin closing the gaps. https://lnkd.in/grvPPDtX

**** Opportunity for Poughkeepsie (City and Town) High School Seniors **** Please help spread the word. Alert: Summer 2024 High School Exchange Program Deadline: This Friday, January 18 Eligibility: Any Poughkeepsie resident who will graduate high school in 2024 Cost: Free The American Exchange Project (AEP) is a first-of-its-kind domestic exchange program that sends high school seniors on a free, week-long trip to a hometown very different from their own. Several local partners have been able to work with AEP to have Poughkeepsie become an AEP community — with City of Poughkeepsie nonprofit Community Matters 2 leading implementation locally. There are currently 4 spots left. Any Poughkeepsie resident (town or city) who will be graduating high school in 2024 is eligible to apply. The deadline to sign up is only two days away, though. All students must be signed up by Friday, January 18. Signup Link: https://bit.ly/aepsignup Questions? E-mail <[email protected]> or call (845) 768-6998. Website: https://lnkd.in/dDtpUQX Thank you to Community Matters 2 for supporting this unique opportunity for local students! … Where will students go? In 2023, AEP partnered with 53 high schools in 31 states. Once you sign up, AEP will consider where you’re from, your interests, and your availability to place you and a group of other AEPers from across the country in one of its partner communities. You could go to any of AEP’s partner towns. Is it really free? AEP covers all costs associated with the program. This includes airfare, meals, housing, local transportation, and fees for events and activities. Why is it free? AEP trips are free thanks to hundreds of donors from around the world who care deeply about bringing together our divided country and offering our students an incredible experience. AEP also believes this experience ought to be a public good. Nothing should get in the way of a young person who wants to learn more about their country and their fellow citizens. https://lnkd.in/dDtpUQX

Superb news that the initial financial barrier when applying to university will be removed for those receiving FSM. Brilliant work by UCAS The entry grades tool is also an excellent development to increase transparency & fairness. I hope there will be clear guidance to manage expectations of people using it. #wideningparticipation #highereducation #removingbarriers #ucas #university #admissions
📢With the aim of removing the initial financial hurdle to attending university or college, today we’ve announced that UCAS is waiving the application fee for students who are currently receiving or have been in receipt of free school meals over the past six years. 📈 In a recent survey, we found nearly two in three teachers agreed that waiving the application fee would help free school meal students to progress to higher education. This is one of two new initiatives that UCAS has announced today to support disadvantaged students to discover and apply to higher education. As an independent charity, ensuring all students have greater opportunity to explore their higher education choices is at our core and we’re committed to supporting students of all backgrounds to access higher education. ➡️Read about our announcement: https://lnkd.in/e2THj2Vs 📽️ Hear from our Schools’ Lead, Samantha Sykes and Interim Principal at All Saints' Academy, Cheltenham, Liam Wilkinson in our video below.

Great to see these practical changes to address two barriers faced by under-resourced students. A £28.50 fee is a lot of money for many people - especially if you're not confident that your higher education applications will even be successful; And published grade requirements for courses can be misleading - nearly half of applicants who sit 3 or more A levels were admitted with grades lower than published requirements, but until now you've had to be in the know to know that. There's much more we need to do to make higher education genuinely open to all but hurrah for these two changes which will make a difference

Over the years, Master Planning for schools has faced new challenges in security, funding, overpopulation, and social media. Despite these challenges, the core values of safe, accessible, diverse, engaging, and community-driven environments remain the same. It is crucial to prioritize these values to ensure thriving educational spaces. Ken Puncerelli #campusplanning #children #students #masterplanning #education #community #funding #Laidesigngroup
