HUGE News: We're in the Sunday edition of the Washington Post! As digital natives, our experience makes us experts to stand up to Big Tech, whose products exploit our data, well-being, and mental health for profit. Big Tech has long operated without any oversight or transparency. But we can change that by raising our voices in collective power to demand accountablity for their profit-driven business models that have addicted and undermined our generation.

Platforms like Snapchat refuse to self-regulate despite what’s at stake. We need legislation. A September poll released by @IssueOneReform and @fairplayforkids revealed that 86% of US voters support the Kids Online Safety Act — let’s get it done.
New Mexico’s lawsuit against #Snap highlights the need for legislation to protect kids online, write Issue One's Willa Blake and Design It For Us's Isabel Sunderland.

This week, the Maryland Kids Code came into effect for almost 1.4 million young Marylanders, marking a historic moment in the fight to protect young people online. This landmark legislation is the first in the United States to offer long overdue protection for our generation so that we can experience an online environment safe from sustained exploitation and undue harm at the hands of Big Tech. Our work first started as a campaign effort to pass the California Age-Appropriate Design Code in 2022 and has since become a youth-led coalition advocating for safer social media and online platforms for kids, teens, and young adults. For almost two years, we held lobby days and testified before the Maryland General Assembly to support the unanimous and bipartisan passage of the Maryland Kids Code. We're thrilled to share this success with the countless parents, teachers, community members, and advocates who have fought tirelessly in support of this legislation. We are grateful to the Maryland legislature and Gov. Wes Moore for ensuring this win for the families and youth who are most vulnerable to Big Tech’s toxic business practices. The enactment of this legislation shows that Big Tech is capable of complying with safety-by-design and privacy-by-default requirements that meaningfully prioritize the wellbeing of young users. No more excuses -- we must continue the momentum in our fight to hold Big Tech accountable nationwide.
