Some thoughts following a #Manufacturing show in Northern Ireland last week... - #AdditiveManufacturing trade shows work best when bundled with other shows aimed at manufacturing industry. Dedicated #3Dprinting shows normally attract the same crowd, but general #Manufacturing shows do a better job of introducing Additive to companies who aren't yet familiar. - There are so many missed opportunities for exhibiting vendors to serve each other's needs. If every exhibitor pitched to every other exhibitor, most would come away with more leads, contacts, knowledge, and even closed business... Unfortunately it's normally too busy to have these conversations. - Transport is inefficient. I shared a taxi with another exhibitor who I bumped into at the show, which got me thinking - thousands of people all head from various train stations and airports - separately, at cost, and with environmental impacts. Combined with a 28 minute wait for a taxi, there's a gap in the Belfast market!

Lightweight Composites - Integrated Thermoplastic Process with Minimal The Engel organomelt process shapes and functionalizes thermoplastic fiber composite semi-finished products, such as organic sheet and UD tapes, in a single integrated process step. Immediately after molding, thermoplastic plastics from the organic sheet matrix material group are injected into the same mold for reinforcement or assembly components. This process not only achieves highly efficient, fully automated production but also contributes to the circular economy. The consistent thermoplastic single-material approach simplifies the subsequent recycling of components. The Engel victory 660/160 injection molding machine, equipped with the Engel easix articulated robot, automates the production of inspection flaps for aircraft fuselages. The production unit also includes an infrared oven, developed and manufactured by Engel. The organic sheets are heated in the infrared oven, placed in the mold by a robot arm, molded in the mold, and then immediately overmolded. Let’s use this to get some much needed focus back on manufacturing, and the long term stability the sector provides in terms of jobs, skills, careers and innovation

Let’s use this to refocus on how important manufacturing is to the economy, and especially how it needs a long term strategy (with the focus on ‘long’… ie decades), which is what the sector needs.
