Hello everyone, today we'll be learning about scabies. *Scabies* is a condition caused by the human mite Sarcoptes scabiei ssp. hominis. Salient features include: - Infants as young as 4-5 weeks can be affected. - Babies are unable to scratch, so symptoms often include irritability, poor sleep, and feeding issues. - The rash is vesiculopapular and usually found on the palms and soles of babies. - In older children, itching is the predominant symptom, and scabies should be suspected if there is any unusual itchy rash, especially if family members have similar symptoms. - Diagnosis is confirmed by the presence of burrows. - Treatment is typically done with topical permethrin 5% cream and all close contacts should be treated simultaneously. #scabies #pediatrics #pediatrician #neet #mbbs #opd #clinics #skindiseases #dermatology #itching #moms
