🔔 Returns Management - Often thought of just as a cost-center, the shift/trend that's happening now is around two key functions of the experience. 🛍 The CX function - A clear policy that can be enforced, but one with overrides and flexibility is now critical. The number of steps, i.e. the friction involved, has to be streamlined. The solutions in the market now help enable that end to end experience and can be tethered to the RMA API's in an OMS or can themselves be be the RMA creator. 🏭 The EX function - On the reverse logistics side, how you integrate the returns management capabilities into the operations, both at DC and at Store, is critical to ensuring the CX function is fully enabled. It's not just about capturing the return authorization and then telling them once the return is received, it's specifically about how long it takes the facilities to process the returns back in. Most WMS can now scan the return label, make an API call to an OMS to pull up the return, then immediately confirm the receipt and issue the refund (and also, able to then 'release' the exchange order back if a receipt is expected). Similarly, the store technologies can do the same, especially if the Store Omni Tech is the same provider as the OMS (where the RMA was created). 💰 BONUS - Often not thought about is where you disposition 'like new' or 'mint' quality return items. Leading retailers don't just send returns back to a returns DC. Some are allowing the supply signal to come into the order-routing decision and sending the items back to a store (to avoid a replenishment, in part) instead of sending it back to a DC only to be RTV'd or sent right back to a store anyway. It's worth assessing the complexities here, but I am seeing more of this use-case getting adopted lately. #Returns #ordermanagement #retail #supplychain
