A bee-autiful day for birdwatching on St Helena Island! Biosecurity Queensland officers from the varroa mite team recently set sail to St Helena Island for a joint surveillance activity with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service Rangers. They were on the lookout for the rainbow bee-eater 🦜🌈 These colourful birds are a secret weapon in the hunt for varroa mite. Rainbow bee-eater pellets can be examined for the presence of Asian honeybee, whose forewings are indigestible to the bee-eater and can signal this invasive bee's presence 🐝 Although no rainbow bee-eaters or foraging honeybees were spotted, this joint activity was a fantastic opportunity to observe bee and bird activity on the island and "feather" the nest of cooperation between our teams. #QueenslandEnvironment

It happened again! This male puma was caught on camera by Pathways for Wildlife using the Highway 17 wildlife tunnel! This is great news for wildlife connectivity especially at this part of Highway 17 that historically saw frequent roadkill of native wildlife. 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 partnered with the Land Trust of Santa Cruz County, Caltrans 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝟱, the University of California, Santa Cruz, 𝗣𝘂𝗺𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to identify the best locations for wildlife crossing structures on Highway 17 in Santa Cruz County. This transformative project, provides safe passage and connectivity to the land for wildlife and improves traffic safety by reducing collisions on the highway between drivers and wildlife. In India, a major issue arises with leopards increasingly approaching villages and towns, often attacking domestic dogs. This phenomenon is partly due to growing urbanization and the reduction of their natural habitat, which pushes these predators to seek food in human-inhabited areas. Leopards, being opportunistic hunters, find domestic dogs to be easy prey compared to wild animals. Leopard attacks cause conflicts between local communities and wildlife authorities, as residents’ safety is endangered. Dogs, often used as guard animals, become prime targets, creating a sense of insecurity and frustration among the residents. To address this problem, several measures are being considered, such as raising awareness among local populations about behaviors to adopt in case of an encounter with a leopard, installing electric fences to protect homes, and efforts to restore and protect leopards’ natural habitats to reduce their need to venture into urban areas. Nevertheless, this forced coexistence between leopards and humans remains a complex challenge requiring a balanced approach that respects both human safety and wildlife conservation. @_planettiger_ @yashchopdaindia #safariwithplanettiger #tiger #indianwildlife #bigcat #wildlife #nature #mother #bandhavgarh #safari #peace #natgeotravelindia #natgeo #natgeoyourshot #ranthambore #wildlifephotography #leopard #sony #dog #instagood #trendingreels #trendingnow #viral #explore #tigres #tigers #association #associationplanetetigre #ngoplanettiger

The repeated application of synthetic fertilizers and overwatering are common practices in lawn maintenance that detriment the environment. In the suburbs, which is often uncontrolled urban sprawl, we commonly see communities with HOA regulations that often require perfect green lawns, instead of promoting native plants that will not require fertilizers nor need constant watering. We need to be changing the rules of the places we live in and educate everyone so they can also be promoters of sustainable initiatives in their own communities. 🙌🏼
