This industry is full of honest, hardworking folks who are dedicated to the trade and invest in their own knowledge & professionalism to bring their best to the horses under their care. But there’s a vocal minority who appear more interested in perpetuating falsehoods and gossip rather than seeking out the facts. Read this NEW blog from Frank Lessiter:

Creating positive change for animals around the world | Corporate engagement | Sustainable tourism | Wildlife lover
Europe once stood as the largest market for seal products, but growing awareness of the cruelty in commercial sealing led to significant changes. By 1983, the Seal Pups Directive banned imports of skins and derived products from newborn harp seals and hooded seal pups. This movement gained momentum, and in 2008, the European Commission proposed closing the Union's borders to all commercial seal products. The strengthened version of this proposal was adopted in 2009, reflecting the demands of MEPs and millions of EU citizens. In this context, Jo Swabe of Humane Society International - Europe explains why it's crucial for the EU to uphold this important ban. Read the full article below on Euractiv.

Have you ever seen sheep transport ships sailing on the sea? Unfortunately, it's not just a journey—it's a tragedy. Over 10 million farmed animals die each year during transport before even reaching the slaughterhouse, often due to horrific conditions. In summer, temperatures inside these ships can soar above 100°F, leading to unbearable heat stress and heart attacks. Animals Australia is working tirelessly with a vision to make the world a better place for animals. At Qwerty Experts, we share this vision and are committed to providing IoT-based solutions that ensure safer and more humane livestock logistics. Together, we can make a difference and push for better treatment of these animals. Let's create a world where every journey is a safe one. #AnimalWelfare #IoTforGood #InnovationForAnimals #LivestockLogistics #BetterWorldForAnimals

Today, I had the privilege to participate in the first part of the below meeting with representatives (governmental officials and scientists) from various EU countries, focusing on the livestock production sector. What truly captivates me is the dedication shown by numerous nations in safeguarding animal welfare within their borders. Examples abound: the mandatory use of anesthetics for certain procedures to alleviate animal discomfort (which should only be done by authorized personnel), the gradual reduction of tail docking practices, and the ongoing efforts to optimize stocking densities, among others. These initiatives reflect a collective commitment towards progression, and I will try to be optimistic that countries like #Malta , which may lag in this area, will draw inspiration and actively contribute to the advancement and well-being of animals. Listening to these discussions, I couldn't help but reflect on the importance of communicating these advancements to society. It's imperative that consumers are informed about the positive strides being made in animal welfare. In an era where many are disconnected from the sources of their food, raising awareness about these developments is paramount! Governments, scientists, farmers, and industry stakeholders are all playing their part, but it's equally vital that the broader public is educated about these efforts. Let's ensure that transparency and awareness prevail as we collectively strive for a more compassionate and sustainable future in livestock production. #efsa #animalwelfare #europe

Badger Trust issues a new guide to tackling bTB in Wales The guide shows how the Welsh Government’s approach is far more comprehensive and effective than that in England. The bovine TB policy in Wales follows the science and applies stricter controls to cattle. “Wales is showing England the way forward on stopping bTB spread. Bovine TB is spread mainly from cattle to cattle, so that’s where the focus is. Targeting wildlife such as badgers is ineffective and cruel — it’s a costly distraction when you need to focus resources on cattle.” Read more and download the guide >
