Finally, through to find a partner that you're willing to work with. We are doing our spring programming with students today at Inspire Elementary. If you need help, I can find you a partner. We have a full-fledged farm. We've got chickens, goats that the students work with and care for. I'm passing you in eggplant as well as planting some vegetables for the summer. Planting it right there. Many of my students lived in a food desert and had no idea where their food came from because they only had access to Dollar General. There wasn't even a grocery store within 2 miles of their home. What I want you to do is to take a moment. Feel the fluffiness of the dirt. I started working with my students in the garden. We built a chicken coop together. We call ourselves sustained farms because we truly believe that each small school, garden or farm can amass to a large farm and we can grow. Collectively across the city at small plots, the equivalent of what a farm could. At Sustained Farms, we really believe that experiential hands on learning is a really great way to not only learn, but to incorporate what's being learned in the classroom. We also want our students to know where their food comes from or how it is grown, and we think it's an important skill for our students to know how food grows, but also to practice growing their own food. This section is already planted. Additionally, every piece of food that is grown at these gardens goes back to our community. Through food bank and food distribution programs. And so it's getting back to our students and families that are the most food insecure in our city. These students are our next generation of folks who have the opportunity to get really fired up about nurturing and caring for the earth and to know where their food comes from. We're partnering with the Office of Sustainability to specifically take on parts of our Climate Action Plan. There is a goal by 2028 to activate 100 school gardens. We're about halfway there. My hope is that by 2028, this is a truly novel. Process. We have the data to be able to like, write even academic papers that show what DPS is doing as a national leader in climate action, but also in school garden programs.
