Good Morning, All! In mid-June I traveled to Montebello Canada (not too far from Montreal) to participate in a completely fascinating discussion with international peers, assembled and curated by the Canadian Ditchley Foundation, affiliated with the original in Oxfordshire, England https://www.ditchley.com/. The focus of the conversation was "Does Older Mean Poorer? What Will Demographic Change Mean for Economic Prosperity and Social Cohesion in Developed Economies?" I'm super happy to say that among the potential solutions we talked about -- including technology, migration, and community building - consensus was strongest that investing in communities that are adapted for much larger populations of older adults and which improve healthy longevity and in so doing contribute to economic development, is a key solution. The summary states that "developing resilient, intergenerational, and local communities could be an effective response, it was judged, to challenges to the intergenerational social contract and loneliness, although there was a perception that governments were not the best agencies to take up this challenge." That may be so -- but governments can play a powerful catalytic role in providing seed funding and flexible parameters to jump-start the process of creating new communities, and/or repurposing disinvested ones, in partnership with "grassroots organisations, e.g., schools, religious institutions, volunteering and civic spaces." And now that most people are living long lives and childbirth rates have fallen, keeping our economies humming demands that the talents and experience of older adults be integrated (not segregated from) the mainstream of society. These are very much the same set of issues that the talented podcaster and analyst Ron Roel of "45 Forward" and I talked about recently in the context of a potential strategy to seamlessly integrate ever-growing demands for long-term services and supports (LTSS) into our medical care system and create a continuum of care. That's the aim of the EINSTEIN Option, which stands for Evaluating Innovation in Nursing Home Systems to End Institutionalization. Hope you'll check out our conversation and feel to reach out and leave comments! https://lnkd.in/edMd8iv6

My second Question and Answer About The Australian Flag. I will be posting more Q And A in the coming days, stayed tune. If you cannot wait , see it all in the Q&A in my website www.australianflags.au. Q: Our dads, and forefathers fought for the flag , why are you fostering changing the flag? A: Respecting the historical significance of the flag and the sacrifices made by our dads and forefathers is paramount. The consideration for a new flag is not meant to diminish their contributions or the importance of the existing flag. While the current flag holds immense historical value and represents the efforts of those who fought for it, the idea of a new flag is driven by the recognition that a nation, like Australia, is continuously growing and diversifying. The proposed flag seeks to embrace this evolution, past and present. The intent is not to erase history but to create a flag that reflects the diversity of Australia while acknowledging the sacrifices and achievements of those who came before. It aims to foster a sense of inclusion, where every citizen, regardless of background, can see themselves represented in the national symbol. The proposal is a step toward ensuring that the flag continues to be a source of pride and unity, honouring the legacy of our dads and forefathers in the spirit of modern Australia. Australian Indigenous Proposed Flag , one of 4 proposed Flags.

We must listen to the lived experience of our youth When we listen to the youth we can develop sustainable and compassionate interventions that are person centered. The person centered interventions are the ones that sustain the empowerment It’s when we become disconnected from the voice of lived experience that we see our progress stagnation So let’s do what we can to not only listen to but include in leadership boards and policy the voice and action of youth and others with lived experience.
Young people want to live in New Hampshire, they just can't afford to. That's the big takeaway from Stay Work Play's recent Policy & Pints Pop-up Series sponsored by New Hampshire Housing and the League of Conservation Voters. To find out more about what we learned in this series that took us all over the Granite State, check out this op-ed written by our Executive Director Will Stewart and published in yesterday’s New Hampshire Union Leader.

Happy Juneteenth everyone! Today we celebrate, June 19, 1865, the day that Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas with the news that the more than 250,000 enslaved Black people in the state were free. Only declared a federal holiday three years ago - but none the less, I am grateful for the holiday to reflect, learn, and celebrate Black culture. Below I have linked to the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of African American History & Culture, if you want to learn a little bit- I particularly enjoyed the digital tool kit :) This got me thinking about what's my part. How can I be apart of celebrating the holiday, but also paying homage to the horrific actions of the past ? One of the ways that I work to break down barriers that continue to exist in preventing the socioeconomic ability to break generational cycles of poverty, as a result of racially fueled policy since the early days of this country is through improved and enhanced transportation. Breaking down barriers between communities through created and enhanced transportation systems, simply put, gets people where they need to go when they need to get there. That means access to school, employment, family -whatever you need it to be. Working to further conversations and implementation for / around transit initiatives, means we can provide enhanced access to economically stressed communities and cities - which we know POC tend to be among those usually the most impacted in these areas. So today, I hope that everyone can take a moment and think about what lies within your passions that help you to break barriers and create change? And if you aren't sure, join along and ALWAYS support transit initiatives 🙂 #juneteenth #breakingbarriers #strongcommunities #createchange #transportation #mobility #bethechange #economicdevelopment

Recently, the governor of Mississippi declared April 2024 Confederate Heritage Month. While I'm not surprised, I am increasingly disgusted in the political decisions made by the public servants of my home state. Enough is enough! Please consider reading this short blog post where I give my personal thoughts and a bit of historical context regarding the implications of celebrating the Confederacy. https://lnkd.in/eXSaQjCa

Brigid's Day | Lá Fhéile Bríde For just over a year now, I have felt Brigid's knock on the door; she has crossed the threshold from her world into mine in many ways. My middle name is Brigid, so I feel Brigid-centred. I was born on the 9th of February, not long after her feast day. I come from a long line of Brigid's. My maternal grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother are and were all Brigid's, to name but a few connections. When my mother passed away in January last year, there was just one thing that I wanted of hers, and that was her St Brigid’s Cross. I didn't know why at the time, but I can engage in its symbolism now. The celebration of Brigid's Day as a national holiday in Ireland underscores the significance of embracing change and transition. Brigid embodies the duality of many spiritual traditions and symbolises the threshold, the space between two opposites. Participating in this liminal space, perhaps through deeper exploration of ourselves, through intuitive practices, invoking Imbas, active imagination, dream analysis, and communing with nature could help initiate this, allowing us to gain self-awareness and a deeper understanding of humanity and the other-than-human world. Through arts and culture, we can explore thresholds and gain insights into our emotions and experiences to navigate transformation and change. However, contemporary Irish society faces challenges, such as a lack of meaningful rites of passage, a loss of connection with our inner selves, hustle culture, and environmental apathy. Addressing these issues by promoting structured rituals and preserving natural rhythms can lead to a more sustainable and fulfilling future. We can create a more harmonious and thriving society by recognising the importance of embracing transition and change while preserving cultural traditions. Brigid reminds us that navigating transitional periods can lead to self-discovery and that exploring thresholds offers a rich metaphor for exploring a wide range of human experiences and emotions. #BrigidsDay #Imbolc #InnerWisdom #Inspiration #GoddessBrigid #Imbas #JuniganPsychology #creativity #ireland #StBrigidsDay
