Chief Executive Officer at InterHealth Canada - Turks and Caicos Islands Hospital

We are starting our first trauma registry! Trauma is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally, with a disproportionate burden affecting low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). Our reason for embarking on this strategic journey is driven by our goal to analyze the impact of trauma and the nature of injuries in our hospital based patient population and nationally so that we and our healthcare partners can develop quality improvement initiatives that prevent injury, optimize trauma care and provide vital information to policy makers on resource allocation and injury prevention programs. Recommendations for a successful trauma registry implementation: ✅Strategic priority with buy-in from policy makers, institutional leaders, individual patients and the community. ✅Adequate and sustainable funding for both start up and annual operating costs. ✅Trauma registry training and specialized personnel. ✅Customized, standardized and inclusive data collection tool supported by Trauma registry software and hardware. ✅Quality patient records and an effective strategy for patient identification and documentation. ✅Project team made up of key stakeholders #peoplecentredcare #serviceexcellence #strategicpartnerships #TCIhospitalstrong

Thirty-one physicians from the Turks and Caicos Islands, including physicians from InterHealth Canada, The Ministry of Health and Human Services, and the Private sector, recently participated in a landmark Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course. This course was conducted under the tutelage of the Massachusetts General Hospital and the American College of Surgeons in collaboration with the Hamilton Education Foundation / Hamilton University School of Medicine. This course marked the first-ever Hybrid ATLS Demo course held outside the United States and took place at the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre. As a result of this training, the 31 physicians obtained certification as ATLS providers. This certification is pivotal as it equips them with essential lifesaving trauma skills necessary for enhancing the quality of healthcare delivery and saving lives in the midst of escalating intentional and unintentional injuries. InterHealth Canada - Turks and Caicos Islands Hospital enthusiastically supports this initiative that not only made history in the Turks and Caicos Islands but also further strengthened patient care standards. To learn more about this groundbreaking course, we invite you to watch a short video highlighting the event. #InterHealthCanada #TCIHospital #HamiltonEducationFoundation #ATLS #TraumaCare #HealthcareQuality #LifesavingSkills #TurksAndCaicos
