Project 2025 "does seek to ban the use of public funds to facilitate reproductive health care and abortion for active service members, and that does strip away critical health care for millions of women." Abortion access and quality healthcare were out of reach for so many people *before* Roe was overturned. "Roe is absolutely the floor," says Chelsea Williams-Diggs, Executive Director of the New York Abortion Access Fund. "Roe was never enough." We can't count on the state to protect our bodily autonomy. It's networks of care and the resources within our communities that will get us through these times. In this week's episode, BIPOC reproductive justice activists explore how abortion access has changed after the 2022 Dobbs ruling, and share the frameworks for care that are helping abortion seekers get the care they deserve. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ▶️ Watch on The Laura Flanders Show YouTube channel. 🎧 Listen wherever you get your podcasts. 📺 Check your local listings at our website. 🔹 Follow The Laura Flanders Show on Patreon for full, uncut conversations. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- #Abortion #RadicalCare #ReproJustice

🔍 Evidence shows that women denied abortions face higher rates of sustained physical violence from partners. Restrictive abortion laws not only limit healthcare choices but also increase the risk of intimate partner violence. Accessible abortion care is crucial in reducing this risk and saving lives. 🔎 Studies, such as the landmark Turnaway Study, have shown that women who are denied abortions experience continued physical violence from their partners, while those who obtain abortions often see a decrease in violence. This highlights the importance of reproductive rights in protecting women's safety and well-being. 👩⚕️ Additionally, pregnancy and the postpartum period can escalate intimate partner violence, putting women's lives at greater risk. Unintended pregnancies have been found to double the likelihood of experiencing interpersonal violence. Ensuring access to safe and legal abortion care can mitigate these risks and provide women with the autonomy to make decisions that best protect their health and safety. 📢 Call to Action: We must fight against restrictive laws that endanger women. Support and vote for leaders who prioritize reproductive rights and healthcare freedom. By standing together, we can create a safer, more equitable society where every woman has the right to make informed decisions about her own body. The Essence article shines a spotlight on the vital role that abortion funds play in supporting individuals navigating barriers to reproductive healthcare. These funds provide crucial financial and logistical support to those who need it most, especially Black and Brown women who face systemic inequities in accessing care. We are committed to uplifting organizations like abortion funds that are on the frontlines of health equity. As highlighted in our 'Funding the Frontlines' roadmap, unrestricted, long-term funding is essential for sustaining the critical work of abortion providers and independent clinics. This support is more crucial than ever as reproductive rights are increasingly under attack. We call on philanthropy to prioritize funding local abortion providers and trans-focused care to ensure that no one is left behind. Now is the time to move beyond performative allyship and make bold investments in reproductive justice for marginalized communities. 🔗 Read more: https://bit.ly/3z7Zo6e #ReproductiveJustice #AbortionFunds

New Amnesty International report documents the stories of pregnant people, families, advocates, public health experts, health workers, and others to show the human impact of abortion bans and restrictions. And the human impact is clear: - bans and restrictions to abortion have created fear, confusion, and devastation; - they have forced pregnant people to delay care; - they have threatened the health and life of those who can get pregnant; - they have created maternity care deserts as doctors leave ban states; - they have further exacerbated inequality in care for marginalized communities; - they have forced people to give birth against their will. The United States is failing to comply with its international human rights obligations. #abortionishealthcare #humanrights #reproductivejustice

Strategic thinker, action taker. Executive Director at The Brigid Alliance, working to make abortion borderless, burden-free and accessible to all.
On the 51st non-anniversary of Roe, an important reminder that we need all the tools in the toolbox to make abortion borderless, burden-free and accessible to all. “We’ve been in an all-out crisis for reproductive freedom since Dobbs, and we need to use every tool in our tool shed to expand access for everyone.” — Ryan Stitzlein, Reproductive Freedom for All https://lnkd.in/dPRFBc-g

Holler Health Justice (HHJ) is one of three incredible organizations Together Rising is honored to amplify as we sunset our organization. HHJ’s approach to funding abortion healthcare has inspired us for years, both in what they do and how they do it. HHJ believes that those directly impacted by an issue are best positioned to design and lead solutions, and their leadership reflects just that - with a majority identifying either as people of color, LGBTQIA+, or from low-income backgrounds. As Together Rising sunsets as an organization, we are proud to invest an additional $750,000 in Holler Health Justice to support their critical work. “The core of Holler Health Justice is mutual aid. We’re not like a large organization swooping down and being saviors, we’re helping our neighbors. That way we can meet people where they are without condescension. All we’re really doing is providing the tools they should have been given already so they can make the decisions that are best for them.” Caitlin Gaffin, Co-Director/Founder, Holler Health Justice Securing safe, accessible abortion and reproductive justice for all is not possible without partners like HHJ leading the way. As increased legislation restricts access to abortion care and reproductive healthcare – especially for the most marginalized, low-income, and rural communities – it is more important than ever to invest in this work. "[HHJ] made the impossible possible. They helped me book a flight, got me to the airport, and even found someone in a different state to go with me to my appointment. They booked a hotel, rides, and made sure everything was taken care of. I owe them my life." Anonymous Together Rising has existed to be a bridge between this community and boots-on-the-ground organizations doing relentless, world-healing work every day. Today, we invite you to step over this bridge to connect directly with HHJ. Follow them, invest in them, and cheer them on!

COMBAT THE WAR ON WOMEN - A constitutional amendment to codify a woman's right to an abortion into our constitution could prove daunting, even with Kamala Harris at the helm, because Democrats require a sizable majority in both the House and Senate to move forward... - At the same time, I believe that with Trump at the helm, we will strong attempts towards draconian laws that will outlaw abortion outright nationally the Republican candidate and his surrogates tout... - The Biden Administration proposed a vote by the legislature to appoint four new justices to the Supreme Court who may be amenable to the abortion issue. Many may see this as political as such an attempted move was made by The FDR Administration; a move to 'stack' the court... Consider: 'A judicial 'procedural' upheaval; not a judicial 'political' upheaval.'... 'Solely the female justices of the Supreme Court alone must decide cases related to 'Womens Reproductive Health' for their fellow 'sisterhood' in the citizenry, while their male counterparts either recuse, or even abstain from such cases.'... empathyequalsjustice.com (Four Pages - Three Minute Read) #SustainableDevelopmentGoals #SDGs #SDG5 #SDG16 Reference: Thomas Doyle - 'Top' Featured Post - #KamalaHarris

Since the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade, many of the states with the highest Indigenous populations—including Arizona, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Wyoming—have rolled out extreme abortion bans leaving two million Indigenous women cut off from essential reproductive care. Add to that a federal law that has prohibited nearly all abortions at Indian Health Service clinics since 1976, disproportionate rates of sexual assault and unintended pregnancy, a crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women, high rates of maternal mortality, and poor access to preventative care and contraception, and we have a public health emergency on our hands that MUST be addressed. When we say reproductive health care must be available to all people, that means ALL PEOPLE EVERYWHERE. On Indigenous People's Day—and every day–we are calling for full access to reproductive health care for Native folks everywhere.
