Glass half empty post, but hear me out, because I/we/schools need you... So many needs are going unmet, and it pains me every day. In my role, I need people power and a semi-truckload of funding power every day, but today I/my team needs it STAT to further our reach. Activate Good received THIRTY applications for The eLOVEate Schools Project (nearly double the number we received last year!). It pained me to close the application when today's deadline came. Many moons ago I was a teacher in the lowest performing district of SC, and I KNOW the vastness of the needs of public schools and still aim to be a champion for them. As I review these applications, I am blown away by the sheer volume of needs that is detailed within them. Due to this being the last year of our funding for this project and our small but mighty capacity, we can only select SIX schools for the next cohort. This also really pains me. Currently this program brings volunteer support and community resources to under-resourced schools in Wake County, and countless impacts have been made over our two years of this heart driven work. Other counties have reached out to inquire about expanding this program. We DREAM of broadening our reach and are filled with ideas, but we would LOVE to talk through them with the people who can really care and can HELP us expand our efforts. We need more staff on our team, we need more sponsors for transformative projects, and we need it all right now to help meet the needs in our schools and beyond. If you're passionate about education, we need you to volunteer. If your company, church, university, or group can financially support transformative projects, we need your support. If you're still reading my soapbox rant, know that I appreciate you more than you know. As you ponder how to help our scappy team with its efforts, let these quotes from the applications sink in: "Everything is old and feels trashed." 💔 "We need to have a building that screams a welcoming, positive, and clean environment for both staff, students and families." "We want our students to SEE themselves in our building and feel like this is a place they want to be (attendance is hovering around 51% missing 6 or more days a year). School should be a place of JOY, and we need help getting there!" EVERY school community should have this and SO MUCH MORE.

It's Teacher Appreciation Day! A huge thank you to the faculty & professionals who support us campus recruiters- we appreciate your generosity, letting us into your classrooms, and the phenomenal work you do preparing students for the workforce! 💓 If you're wondering why this day exists (it's also Nurse's Appreciation Week!) it's because these professionals are typically overworked, underpaid, and underrecognized. What can you do to help?! 💥 If you're a parent/ caregiver, get to know your child's teachers. A simple introduction, letting them know they have your support, or a random treat goes a long way! 💥 If you're a business owner/ leader, seek ways to support school districts and educational nonprofits in your spheres. Your resources, whether that's offering discounts, donations, or your voice, uplift communities and shine a light on issues that matter! 💥 If you're a human whose life has been impacted by an educator, reach out! A simple thank you can reinvigorate a teacher and remind them why they do what they do, especially at the end of the year when they're feeling drained. Here are a few of my favorite educators who I miss collaborating with everyday 📓 Thank you teachers, you make the world go round!!

It’s back-to-school season. But for too many children, there’s no guarantee they’ll get much of an education at all. Why? Because not one state in this country is doing enough to make sure homeschooled children are receiving an education. Across the country, too many homeschooled children aren't being taught core school subjects, can't take advantage of their local school district's resources or activities, have unqualified teachers, or don't get their academic progress assessed. At CRHE, we're committed to changing that. We created the Make Homeschool Safe Act to protect homeschooled children's right to learn, and we're doing everything we can to get this landmark model legislation in front of leaders who can help bring it to life state by state. But we can't do this vital work without you. As the 2024-2025 school year starts, we’re asking you to give $25 to spread the word about the Make Homeschool Safe Act. Every dollar helps our small team stand up for homeschooled children's right to learn. Give today:

Alert: Summer 2024 High School Exchange Program Deadline: This Friday, January 18 Eligibility: Any Poughkeepsie resident who will graduate high school in 2024 Cost: Free The American Exchange Project (AEP) is a first-of-its-kind domestic exchange program that sends high school seniors on a free, week-long trip to a hometown very different from their own. Several local partners have been able to work with AEP to have Poughkeepsie become an AEP community — with City of Poughkeepsie nonprofit Community Matters 2 leading implementation locally. There are currently 4 spots left. Any Poughkeepsie resident (town or city) who will be graduating high school in 2024 is eligible to apply. The deadline to sign up is only two days away, though. All students must be signed up by Friday, January 18. Signup Link: https://bit.ly/aepsignup Questions? E-mail <[email protected]> or call (845) 768-6998. Website: https://lnkd.in/dDtpUQX Thank you to Community Matters 2 for supporting this unique opportunity for local students! … Where will students go? In 2023, AEP partnered with 53 high schools in 31 states. Once you sign up, AEP will consider where you’re from, your interests, and your availability to place you and a group of other AEPers from across the country in one of its partner communities. You could go to any of AEP’s partner towns. Is it really free? AEP covers all costs associated with the program. This includes airfare, meals, housing, local transportation, and fees for events and activities. Why is it free? AEP trips are free thanks to hundreds of donors from around the world who care deeply about bringing together our divided country and offering our students an incredible experience. AEP also believes this experience ought to be a public good. Nothing should get in the way of a young person who wants to learn more about their country and their fellow citizens. https://lnkd.in/dDtpUQX

The 'Best Practices Giving Gods' recommend that to retain your donors and supporters, as many as 12 touchpoints of some type in one year. This could be in your enewsletter, on your website, and certainly should come in emailed and mailed thank you letters. Today, do good Consulting's Chief ChangeMaker, LAURA HUTH-RHOADES, got a rare, but wonderful one: a hand-signed, hand-addressed birthday postcard from the YMCA of the University of Illinois. There's no ask, not even a QR. Just a simple cheery note with real signatures, a real stamp, and a personal and creative touch throughout. What would YOUR donors think if they got something like this in the mail on their birthday or anniversary? Or in recognition of another special event, like a new addition to the family? Bet it would warm their heart, elevate your group's position on their giving list, and make your cause even more memorable! How can your organization find and use information in a way that will make your donors' hearts sing like mine did today upon receiving this?
