Today, as we honor Juneteenth, we recognize our nation's progress and — perhaps more importantly — the work still ahead. It's been four years since the largest civil rights protests in U.S. history, and three since this date was declared a federal holiday by President Joe Biden. Yet, despite many companies offering Juneteenth as a day off and continued disparities in the workforce (and beyond), #DEI efforts are increasingly sidelined in the corporate world, and DEI leaders are often the first to face job cuts as companies rethink their budgets and the spotlight moves away from what they once claimed were critical priorities. Now is not the time to reduce our focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. Instead, it’s THE moment to double down on our commitment to creating equitable workplaces. As DEI Leadership Institute CEO Maria Putnam said at our 2023 Annual Conference, “We aim to create a more conscious, engaged, and active DEI community through the cultivation and sharing of ideas, as well as creating spaces of belonging. This mission has never been more important.” That message still resonates deeply today. At the DEI Leadership Institute, we see this as a unique opportunity to unite under a common mission and drive meaningful change. Let’s ensure that our efforts to build inclusive communities continue with vigor and determination. #Juneteenth #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #Leadership #Community

Let Juneteenth be a day of reflection for all of us. I’ll never forget the day I learned about Juneteenth from my dear colleague, friend, and mentor Beverley Wright. It was June of 2020, and we at Linkage were preparing to deliver a webinar as part of a series aimed at supporting leaders globally with intersecting crises – the Covid-19 pandemic and the social injustice sparked by the murder of George Floyd. Bev gently told me the story of Juneteenth as a beloved and special day for Black people. This photo is from that webinar on June 19, 2020, and the advice on the slide was created with Bev’s support, offering practical guidance for all of us to become allies to the Black community. Today, I realize Juneteenth can be a powerful day for Americans that spans race, cultural background, and gender because it celebrates true freedom, progress, and the moral responsibility we have to help each other thrive both in and out of the workplace. I’m glad Juneteenth is now a federal holiday in the US and 28 states have made it a public holiday. It’s such a long way from where we were a few years ago when so many didn’t understand the significance of this day. But this day helps us to continue learning, reflecting, and recommitting to the work of racial equity. So, I hope you will all join me today in taking another step on your journey to be an ally and build inclusive workplaces. A must-read is this study from Catalyst Inc. that reveals women’s experiences with racism at work across five countries (including the US), shares their voices, and calls on all of us to be antiracist leaders: https://lnkd.in/etiquZBE I wish you not merely a “happy” Juneteenth, but one filled with meaning, reflection, and a renewed commitment to creating a better, freer, and more nurturing world for everyone. #TheCatalystEffect

Being from Texas, celebrating Juneteenth has been a core memory for me, especially my childhood summers in East Texas. Since it has become a federal holiday, many companies have chosen to observe this holiday. I want to remind you that it is more than just another day off. Juneteenth is a day that marks not just a moment in history, but a journey towards freedom, equality, and justice. It reminds us of the continuous fight for rights, recognition, and real change in our societies and within ourselves. As leaders, we have the power to shape cultures that honor diversity, foster inclusiveness, and create spaces where everyone feels valued and heard. How are you using your role to perpetuate these values in your workspace beyond today? Share your commitment below or send us a DM to discuss how we can collectively build a more equitable future. Let's make every day a step towards lasting change. 💡✊ #Juneteenth #Leadership #DiversityandInclusion #HumanResources

Intentionality is important and we recognize the complex realities of the Community Impact Sector. White women are overrepresented in leadership roles while Black, Indigenous, and other racialized employees are underrepresented in these positions. And we know that the current makeup of the IONS leadership team isn’t reflective of the diversity that exists across our full team, board, the sector, and who we serve. With an intersectional lens, we are committed to welcoming a leader with lived experience from an equity-deserving community to help guide our work in building networks and capacity within the sector. We are particularly interested in the perspectives and leadership of someone who identifies as Indigenous, Black, or racialized and who holds a race-informed, justice and equity lens. We also recognize the additional emotional labour racialized employees must often carry when entering workplaces and appreciate the opportunity to build trust and relationship with the successful candidate. The IONS team is a compassionate, collaborative team who works to ensure our diversity is valued, celebrated, and informing our work. To learn more about the team, you can visit our people page at ions.ca To learn more about the position, click here: https://lnkd.in/ekhSmYnj

Global DEI Leader | Seasoned Operations Leader | Gold Tier #IAmRemarkable Facilitator🏅| Public Speaker 🎤
This article by Aparna R. unveils a crucial aspect of the DEI conversation, emphasising the pivotal role of white leaders in advancing these values not only in the US but across Europe and beyond. The principles of equity and inclusion are universal and extend far beyond national borders. Historical and systemic privileges enjoyed by white communities are pervasive worldwide, necessitating a global commitment to meaningful change. White leaders worldwide have a crucial role to play in championing DEI. Their influence and power can shape inclusive environments where individuals from all backgrounds can thrive. It's not enough to simply claim allyship; true progress requires active engagement, cultural competence, and a commitment to amplifying diverse voices. The imperative for lifelong learning and reflection resonates deeply in European contexts. By confronting biases, privileges, and historical legacies of oppression, white leaders can cultivate empathy and unity within their organisations and communities. #inclusiveleadership #DEI #globalchange #peopleandculture https://lnkd.in/eV4QkQte

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth—a pivotal moment in American history that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. It marks a significant milestone towards freedom and justice, reminding us of the importance of acknowledging and learning from our shared past. At Impact Consulting, we recognize that true progress in our workplaces and society comes from embracing diversity. Just as strategic career planning and a diverse skill set are vital to achieving executive leadership, so too is fostering a workplace culture that values cultural fluency and empathy. As we commemorate and honor Juneteenth, we reaffirm our commitment to creating inclusive environments where every voice is heard, respected, and valued.
