🌟 Exciting News! 🌟 I’m thrilled to share that I’ve just completed the Software Engineering simulation by Goldman Sachs on Forage! 🚀 During the simulation, I had the incredible opportunity to step into the role of a Governance Analyst, where I assessed IT security and identified areas for improvement. One of the key highlights was uncovering that the company was using an outdated password hashing algorithm. 🔐 Using Hashcat, I successfully cracked passwords, which led me to propose several enhancements aimed at bolstering the company's password protection. I crafted a memo for my supervisor, outlining recommendations such as: - Extending the minimum password length - Implementing a dedicated hashing algorithm This experience has been invaluable in understanding the significance of robust IT security measures and how they impact organizations in today's digital landscape. Reflecting on my First DEFCON: A Whirlwind of Learning, Connections, and Inspiration My first DEFCON experience was nothing short of incredible. From the enriching volunteer work to thought-provoking talks and conversations, it was a week that left a lasting impact. Giving Back: Volunteering Volunteering was truly the heart of my DEFCON experience. I had the honor of spending time with #QueerCon and #WISP, connecting with individuals I might not have met otherwise and engaging in meaningful conversations. My time with the #AppSecVillage team was particularly memorable; their dedication and camaraderie made the village tick. It truly takes a village! LineCon: Embracing the Unexpected I'm so glad I took the plunge and joined #LineCon (at 5:00 a.m.). A chance encounter led to a fascinating conversation about cybersecurity research with a research supervisor from New Mexico, sparking new ideas and possibilities for my own future. Talks and Conversations: Expanding My Horizons OSINT wasn't on my radar until Mishaal Khan's captivating session opened my eyes to its potential. I'm even considering his in-person course. I also learned about Clemson's innovative use of OSINT in identifying the creator of a large number of disinformation sites on the internet. Concerns about over-reliance on LLMs for coding, debates on the term "AI," and the importance of AI safety alongside security resonated deeply with me, especially given my current work at Data Annotation.
