Really good articulation of rising demands on local authority services and budgets. Only a short watch.
“Historically when people have spoken about pressures on local authority budgets, a lot of the focus has been on adult social care. In recent times, the percentage increase in children's services has been greater - and it is a growing impact." Watch our children's services spokesperson Roger Gough, John Pearce ADCS and Stuart Ashley Hampshire County Council outline the ever-growing pressures faced by counties in delivering children's services to the Education Committee in the House of Commons today. We're calling for further reform to the system: https://lnkd.in/e8wQJ2ch

Children are particularly vulnerable due to their dependency on adults for care, protection, and decision-making. Their developmental stage makes them more susceptible to harm and exploitation. This vulnerability can manifest in various ways, such as exposure to abuse, neglect, or inadequate access to essential services like education and healthcare. Because children lack the capacity to fully protect themselves or make informed decisions, they rely heavily on adults and institutions to safeguard their well-being. The impact of adverse experiences during childhood can have long-lasting effects on their physical, emotional, and cognitive development. Addressing this vulnerability requires comprehensive protective measures, including legal safeguards, supportive social services, and community awareness. Ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for children is crucial in mitigating their vulnerability and fostering their overall development. Every child you encounter is a divine appointment." – Wess Stafford

Home Visitation: Strengthening the intersect between home visiting and child care programs in New York State When it comes to services and supports for families with young children, there is often either a dearth or duplication. Instead of looking a the whole child, we look at their education and care needs versus their health and social-emotional needs. Two services that could, should, and sometimes do overlap are maternal, infant, and early childhood home visiting and child care. Fostering coordination and collaboration between these two services would support and strengthen both families with young children and the workforce that serves them. Supportive and caring adults are critical in helping young people become powerful advocates for their rights and individual decisions about their health and well-being. They can support youth agency and engagement by actively listening to young people, centering their voices and lived experiences, and involving them in program development. When caring adults are better equipped to understand young people’s concerns, they can work with them to make informed decisions to help them thrive. March shines a light on Social Work Month! Today, we're spotlighting Lisa Richards Ryan, LSW! Unit, title, years of experience? Office of Intake and Emergency Services District Manager 27 years What do you do at the Department? I am the District Manager of the Office of Intake and Emergency Services on St. Croix. As a Social Worker/District Manager, it is important to have many characteristic traits, such as honesty, empathy, effective communication skills, being non-biased, as well as being a good listener. Who does your unit help? Intake is a unit that functions under the guidelines of Title 5 of the Virgin Islands Code, mandating that this unit protects the children of our community from abuse as well as neglect. Why is it important? Social Workers are public servants who are dedicated to ensuring that the children of our community are safe in their environments. Why would other social workers want to come work at DHS? Working with the Department of Human Services has allowed me to be exposed to so many families that need assistance. This work has also allowed me to grow and develop the skills and experience necessary to become a better person, not only for myself but also for others.
