The Rise of PWAs📈 & Why Major App Stores Are fighting against it👿? - What are PWAs? A PWA(Progressive Web App) is a type of application software delivered through the web, built using common web technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript & can be added to home screen like traditional app store application. -Advantages of PWAs 1. Cross-Platform Compatibility📱: PWAs work seamlessly across different devices and operating systems. 2. Offline Functionality🛜: They can load icons and fonts like traditional app without an internet connection using cached data. 3. No Need for App Stores🛍️: Users can install PWAs directly from the browser, bypassing app stores. 4. Automatic Updates✅: PWAs are always up-to-date without requiring manual updates as soon as website get updated 5. Reduced Development Costs💰: A single PWA can work on multiple platforms, saving time and resources for developers. -Why Google and Apple Aren’t Thrilled? 1. Revenue Loss💰: App stores generate significant revenue through app sales and in-app purchases. PWAs bypass these stores, potentially reducing this income stream. 2. Control Over Ecosystem🫳: App stores allow Google and Apple to control the quality and security of apps. PWAs, being directly accessible, can circumvent this control. 3. Data and Analytics📊: App stores provide valuable data about user behavior, preferences, and app performance. PWAs can limit the data tech giants can collect. - Apple Tried to ban PWA The European Commission alleges that Apple imposes technical restrictions through its iOS operating system, preventing developers from distributing their PWAs via the App Store if they also provide standalone versions of those same apps. These limitations could potentially stifle innovation and limit consumer choice, thereby harming both developers and consumers alike.

I was using PWA w/o even knowing it was a PWA 😅. Spotify is the biggest example.
