Hey LinkedIn family! 👋 I’ve officially reached Level 8—the final stage of my Employment BootCamp journey—and I couldn’t be more excited to share that my project was approved by the Program Director Naomi Lucas today! 🎉 Level 8: The Final Challenge 🎯 The task was to build a Career Success Canvas, incorporating everything we’ve learned over the past 12 weeks. This level was all about understanding the basics of diversity, equity, and inclusion, navigating office politics, managing workplace discrimination, thriving as an entrepreneur, and dealing with societal pressure. The purpose of this challenge was to tie together all the concepts we’ve covered so far. We were strongly advised to draw from our Personal Manifesto, Personal Branding Plan, Career Map, Job Search Plan, and CV—basically, everything we’ve worked on throughout the BootCamp. When I received the approval from the Program Director, her message warmed my heart. The past 12 weeks have been the most fulfilling of my life. This journey has not only equipped me with the skills to thrive in my career but has also empowered me to navigate the complexities of the modern workplace with confidence and grace. I took the exams right after 12th but didn't succeed I took a gap year to prepare and tried again But couldn't do it again The feeling that I had wasted an entire year brought a lot of anxiety I hated competitive exams and it made me feel worse Till 10th I was one of the top performers of my class, I actually enjoyed studying But when I was pushed into this race, I realized I did not want to be a part of it. But I thought I did not have a choice because... 'Isme career scope achha hai' 'yeh nahi toh aur kya?' (yes, my worldview was that limited!) The pressure was so intense that that I couldn't handle it, and it affected my performance. The worst thing I did was isolate myself I stopped enjoying learning and thought that being alone and studying all day would help me focus. But instead, it made things worse. I was mentally struggling and nothing seemed to click. Fortunately, I had the support of my family, and eventually, I managed to find my way (a story for another time). Looking back, I realize all that I needed was a strategy. Just hard work was not sufficient... a lesson that has stuck with me ever since. My past mistakes are actually helping me now. Today, when I start working with a client, the first thing we do is build a strategy. 5 Things I Did in School to Prepare for Life Beyond Graduation I stand on the threshold of this new chapter, having completed the first part of my academic journey and awaiting graduation. As a high achieving student, I'm proud of my academic accomplishments and grateful for the intentional decisions I made to set myself up for success. Here are 5 key things I did: 📍Surrounded myself with supportive associates: While I may not have had a large circle of friends, I was fortunate to have close associates who shared similar goals and values. We supported and motivated each other, and their impact will be felt for years to come. 📍Focused on small wins: I learned to break down tasks into manageable chunks and harness the power of to-do lists. This helped me stay organized and focused, even when juggling multiple responsibilities as Financial Secretary of my Student Representative Council. By celebrating small victories, I built momentum and confidence. 📍Thought beyond graduation: I didn't just focus on finishing school and getting a job. I took time to reflect on what's next and plan for my future. This helped me clarify my goals and make intentional decisions about my career path. I explored opportunities, sought advice, and laid the groundwork for my next steps. 📍 Embraced my individuality: I took inspiration from others, but stayed true to myself and my goals. I recognized that everyone's journey is unique, and that's what makes it special. By embracing my strengths and weaknesses, I found my own path and stayed authentic. 📍Took proactive action: I planned ahead, set deadlines, and avoided procrastination. This helped me stay on track and achieve my goals, even when faced with challenges and setbacks. By taking ownership of my time and priorities, I developed a sense of purpose and direction. PS: As a top performing student, I've consistently pushed myself to excel academically. I'm proud of my achievements and know that they've prepared me for the challenges ahead. These habits have served me well and will continue to propel me forward as I embark on this new chapter. This week, I had the incredible opportunity to catch up with someone who has been a guiding light in my education journey—my university professor and former dissertation supervisor. What do you want to be when you grow up? What’s your answer? I ask this question to every person I coach….and the first answer is always… “I don’t know. I haven’t thought about that.” I coach the person to go think about it. And that I really want to talk about their thoughts in the next mentoring session or 1-1. I give them explicit permission to dream - and hold them accountable to tell me their dreams. The next meeting, after the mentee has had some time to reflect, I usually have one of the richest career conversations with that person that they’ve had in years. Because they took a moment to dream. To think about what if I could do what I want to do versus what I have to do. And then we reflect on, what little steps could we take now to help that person lean into what they WANT to do or become. I believe we do our best work when we can combine our passion and purpose. That is what this exercise is dedicated to. Now I’d like you to do that. What do you want to be when you grow up? What are you doing now as small steps to work towards your dream?
