Sidley Austin 2L applications are open today (Dallas and Houston). Remember, Sidley Houston is majority corporate. The litigators are in Dallas. White & Case Houston: June 11th Summer Reception - RSVP by June 5 Tomorrow is June 1st. Most Texas firms will open their 2L summer applications tomorrow. I recommend discussing your 1L cumulative grades with career services and requesting a list of firms that would be a match for your grades. If you message me on LI, I'm happy to advise you on firms. However, I need the following information to respond. Law School, 1L cumulative GPA and rank, city preference in TX, practice area preference (I need to know if you are leaning towards corporate or litigation). Make your summer associate part of the team. The tendency is to give your summer associate one-off assignments. Research this isolated legal issue for my case. Or do this non-billable project that I've been waiting all year for someone to work on. Your summer associate can't file an appearance, and they're not qualified to do a lot of litigation tasks. So how can you make them feel like a full team member on your case? Easy. Just talk to them about the case. Whenever you see them. Or whenever there's a new development. They probably have insights you haven't thought of. And even if not, the work is so much more rewarding when they feel like part of the team. And don't stop the conversation when the summer is over. If your summer associate is local, take them out to lunch during the year and catch them up on your cases. If they're out of town, stay in touch however you like to. It's my 11-year anniversary of being a summer associate, and I'm still at the only firm I've ever known. Because they did things like this. They made me and kept me part of the team.

Trial week at Yugo Collins, PLLC ! We try cases. It’s what we do. Christopher Collins Mia Yugo Risk is par for the course when you’re a litigator. But this week was special because it was the first ever arbitration for our Summer Associates Hannah Todd and Tyler Ward! (This case was bifurcated so one part of it will be tried before a jury, and the other part before an arbitrator). You can’t be a good litigator if you’re afraid of trial. We love the courtroom. We love trying cases, and we like talking to judges and juries. Summer Associates need to see what practicing law is really like. That means they need to participate in trials. They need hands-on experience. Don’t sugarcoat the practice for your interns. Show them the real thing. We won’t have a verdict until next week. But our trial team, including Tyler & Hannah, have each made predictions, so we’ll see what happens. #triallawyers #lawyerlife #therealdeal
