Have you ever felt left out of a conversation? What about this situaton: A group of people without knowing close a circle of people talking on you because you seemed to only be listening and not engaging? What about this scenario: You're by yourself in a social environment where the world around you is busy meeting and doing "social things" yet you are alone in the middle of it all like an island lost at sea? Try this one: What about in a lecture theatre or a classroom of some sort or a work training session? We all talk about "Isolation" but how many of you really truly know the meaning of this word? I ask you this question: How many of you live it every single day? I have so hear me out: I have experienced for a very long time over many different situations and environments. Even now where I abide the only contact I have with another person who signs is my interpreters ( I have to drive an hour to another city for Deaf social events). This is because there isn't any support here for us locally in the form of Deaf activities. Its no wonder when two Deaf get together at a local cafe (like I said on Friday) the community will watch with great interest. Not to be rude but they simply don't see it. It's not the norm where I am. Yet they too don't understand the meaning of isolation. Yesterday I was researching for my behind the scenes creative project and was looking at children's picture books in the local bookstore. I asked if they had any within the DEI space. I had to naturally explain what that was and the answer I got was no nothing. That did surprise me for a bookshop but didn't surprise me when I am the recipient of the local mindsets. I will be working on this even more now. - watch this space. We simply can't expect people to have a mindset change when they simply don't see it or have any examples to witness first. We in the DEI need to bring the change. The British BBC TV Drama titled Waterloo Road that has been running for a few years now has a great example both visually and signed as well as spoken about this when Deaf Character Luca Smith (actor Danny Murphy) tries to talk about it. Advocating for Accessibility: Empowering Deaf Individuals Ensuring equal opportunities for Deaf individuals is not just a matter of inclusivity; it's a fundamental right. Advocating for accessibility across all facets of life is crucial in fostering a society where everyone can thrive. In employment, healthcare, transportation, and public services, accessibility is key. Highlighting successful advocacy initiatives and campaigns that have led to positive changes in policies, legislation, and infrastructure is vital in paving the way for Deaf inclusion and accessibility. By advocating for accessible workplaces, healthcare facilities equipped with sign language interpreters, transportation services with visual aids, and public spaces designed with Deaf individuals in mind, we can create a more inclusive society for all. Let's continue to champion accessibility rights and work towards a future where Deaf individuals have equal opportunities to pursue their passions, make meaningful contributions, and become leaders and advocates within their communities. #Accessibility #Inclusion #DeafAdvocacy #EqualOpportunities #DeafCommunity #AdvocacyInitiatives #pfrancescafoundation

Celebrating International Day of the Deaf 2024 Today, we recognize the International Day of the Deaf, a day that highlights the rights, contributions, and resilience of deaf individuals around the world. This year’s theme, "A World Where Deaf People Everywhere Can Sign Anywhere!", reminds us of the critical importance of sign language as a key to access, inclusion, and human dignity for the deaf community. As we work toward a more inclusive society, it’s essential to advocate for policies, resources, and opportunities that break down barriers and ensure deaf individuals have access to education, employment, and healthcare in their preferred language, sign language. Let’s continue the conversation about inclusion, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their hearing ability, can thrive and contribute to our communities. Together, we can build a world where deaf people can sign anywhere and everywhere. #InternationalDeafDay #Inclusion #SignLanguage #Accessibility

✨ It's Deaf Awareness Week! ✨ This #DeafAwarenessWeek, we celebrate the vibrant Deaf community and recommit to making workplaces and the world more accessible and inclusive, creating a world where every voice is heard and valued, whether spoken or signed. 🌟 This week, we're shining a spotlight on inclusion, empowerment, and accessibility. Here are 5 tips for promoting inclusion in the work place: 1. Provide qualified sign language interpreters for meetings, training sessions, and company events involving Deaf employees. 2. Make all video content captioned and audio transcribed. 3. Ensure all workplace communications are accessible - use clear visuals, written materials, and consider providing materials in British Sign Language. 4. Install proper visual alerting systems like pagers or flashing lights for fire alarms 5. "Embracing Diversity: A Perspective from the Deaf Community" As a proud member of the deaf community, I want to share a unique perspective with all of you. “I am deaf, but for me, ALL OF YOU ARE DUMB.” This statement might surprise you, but it’s essential to understand that our experiences shape our viewpoints. Being deaf doesn’t limit us; it empowers us to see the world differently. We communicate through sign language, visual cues, and resilience. Our silence speaks volumes. Living Life on Our Terms: We live our lives unapologetically. We pursue our passions, build careers, and form deep connections. Our abilities define us, not our limitations. When you see someone wearing an “I’m Deaf” shirt, recognize their strength and celebrate their uniqueness. Support Matters: We’re not asking for pity; we’re expecting your support. Be our allies. Learn sign language. Create inclusive spaces. Advocate for accessible education and employment opportunities. Together, we can break down barriers and create a world where everyone thrives. Join the HOPE Campaign: HOPE stands for Host Opportunity Promote Employment. Let’s ensure equal opportunities for all. Visit mysamvedna.org to learn more and be part of this movement. Remember, it’s not about what we lack; it’s about what we bring to the table. Let’s celebrate diversity, challenge assumptions, and uplift each other.
