✨AI presents a game-changing opportunity for the future of alternative proteins. 🌱 💡 By streamlining development, optimizing production, and creating delicious and sustainable products, AI can play a crucial role in shaping a more responsible and innovative food system. For some companies, AI is used to develop the ingredients for the feed-stocks going into cultivated proteins and fats. AI speeds up the fantastically complex processes and reduces costs. “We do fewer experiments because machine learning helps decide which ones to do, and we don’t have to do as many sequentially as they can be done in parallel. It’s far cheaper, faster, and more scalable,” says Dr Charlie Taylor, Multus' Head of Business Development. “With conventional methods they grow cells for two or three days under a microscope, then count them, giving one data point. We take a photograph every three hours and send it to a machine-learning application to count the cells. So, we’re getting a data point every three hours.” 🤓 Learn more from Charlie and others in our deep dive on smart manufacturing in the Q2 2024 edition of Protein Production Technology International: https://hubs.ly/Q02F2sZr0 #AI #AlternativeProtein #Innovation #SmartManufacturing #FutureOfFood

💡 New Wave Biotech's AI software acts as a virtual lab, simulating vast numbers of experiments to dramatically reduce development time and costs. 🚀 🌱 The result? Cheaper, more accessible alternative proteins, and in doing so accelerating their journey to becoming a mainstream sustainable food source. The company’s CEO & Co-founder, Zoe Yu Tung Law, explains more: “Around 90% of promising technologies never reach scale because experimentation is too slow and too expensive,” Law reveals. “Each experiment can cost anything from US$10,000 to US$100,000 and take three to 10 years to go from lab to market. Many companies simply run out of money before even making it there!” 📰 Gain more insights into New Wave Biotech's innovation by reading the feature on them in the Protein Production Technology International magazine. 👇 🔗 https://hubs.ly/Q02twms_0 #AI #alternativeprotein #innovation #scalability #sustainability #futureoffood

While reading The Economist's article on '𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐲𝐩𝐞', I noticed an interesting parallel. If I replaced the word '𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞' with '𝐀𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐢𝐧' or '𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐭', the article could easily be referring to either industry. This highlights a crucial point: any industry that follows the Venture Capital playbook is likely to be subject to the Gartner Hype Cycle theory. The cycle of hype, disillusionment, and eventual maturity is a familiar pattern, and one that Alternative Protein and Plant-based meat industries may also face. "AI (Alt Protein) could still revolutionise the world. One of the big tech firms/ big food companies might make a breakthrough. Businesses could wake up to the benefits that the tech offers them. But for now the challenge for big tech/big food is to prove that ai has something to offer the real economy. #relax #bechill #alternativeprotein #plantbased

It’s AI, so it must be true! Last week The Co-op and AI image generator Midjourney published some images what food will look like in 25 years. Personally, I reckon it could be sooner that insect protein and ocean or water-based plants find their way into our diets and lives. Recent M2M research with Insights by Kantar, Sam Curtis and Dr Nicki Morley put both in the Top10 of our scale of 20 behaviours most likely to turn mainstream. Where I take issue with the AI thinking is that we are unlikely to see actual crickets in our food; more likely is insect protein as an ingredient – stock cubes, flour, breakfast cereal, health food bars. Why? Because people are fully aware of the benefits but resist the reality. Successful innovators will find a way to reframe and ‘include’ rather than showcase. Kelp is a huge opportunity across not just food but packaging, health & beauty and fashion: consumers are open to it and anyone taking innovation seriously should be exploring it. The full report on the most recent research (new quant and new digital analytics) on 20 marginal behaviours conducted earlier this year across three countries will be available early Autumn – let me know if you want to be added to the list for a copy

𝗚𝗲𝗻 𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮, 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗚𝗲𝗻 𝗔𝗜 “I believe we are living in the most exciting time to be in the food and agriculture industries that I have seen in over 30 years. And the rate of change will never be slower than it is today,” says Tony Hunter. In the latest edition of 𝗕𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗶𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹, we get the views of Tony Hunter, Future of Food Consulting. Tony is a strategic foresight consultant, Food Futurist Speaker, food scientist, and author specializing in the Future of Food and Agriculture. Generative AI is here and it’s just getting started. Exponential thinking, rather than our innate linear train of thought, is taking shape. Understanding that AI is advancing exponentially is very important because we, humans, are naturally linear creatures. An hour is an hour, a week is a week, and a year is a year. We might sometimes feel that time passes faster or slower, but it does not. Humans are linear, but technology advances exponentially.
