It was a great opportunity for the Group’s leadership team to share its visions with the financial community on how the various segments have been evolving and how the Group has been implementing initiatives to capitalize on growth prospects. Thank you Harvard Business School for hosting a thought-provoking Global Families in Business Conference. It was an honor to hear from business leaders like Kumar Mangalam, Chair of Aditya Birla Group, and Riccardo Illy, President of Gruppo Illy, and Chris Davis, CMO at New Balance! The discussion on the significance of understanding people in business was insightful, as "cultures eat strategy for breakfast." Without understanding people, it's impossible to truly understand business. One key takeaway was the importance of leading within your role, regardless of your position. From CEO to entry-level employees, everyone has the opportunity to lead and make a difference, especially in legacy businesses. Intentionality and flexibility were also discussed as crucial aspects of successful business. Being intentional about your leadership style and decisions, while also remaining flexible enough to adapt to changing circumstances, can set you apart from the competition. Lastly, we explored the power of brand positioning and strategy. With the right positioning, product and strategy, everything else falls into place. As we enter a period of potentially low/no growth, the battle is increasingly about growing market share rather than rising with the tide. Some great insights emerged around how to drive innovation organisationally, the critical role of leadership in defining an innovation culture, shaping the right mindset and of course the central role that culture plays. We heard about the balance between “Iteration, Renovation and Revolution”. We heard how important courage and risk taking is. We even heard how the term “innovation” can sometimes send the wrong signals.
