This week, DAWSON leadership from across the country came together to support the San Antonio Food Bank, an organization fighting hunger and feeding hope across southwest Texas. The team of volunteers sorted and packed food to be handed out at a mass distribution event this week. As a team, more than 41,770 pounds of food were packed into 880 bags to provide more than 33,000 meals to needy families. Mahalo to the San Antonio Food Bank for all they do to support the Texas community! #SAFoodBank #SanAntonio #Texas #FoodSecurity #FightHunger

For most, it's the berry season. For musician me, it's pie season. This summer marks the eighth year of my Pie & Persistence house concert series, which has raised over $85k for more than 30 non-profits from Seattle to Ukraine. And yes, there was a lot of pie. You can learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gF8Eyfuy In the semi post-Covid world, these typically happen during the summer. I'm a little stunned by how they've evolved from the early days of tip jars and collecting checks/cash for different organizations. This year, hosts have worked with individual organizations to create digital donation pages, which I think is pretty cool. Although this Friday's P + P for the Ballard Food Bank hosted by Jennifer Lamson and Ric Ilgenfritz is sold out, you can still support access to nutritious foods and services for 10,000+ households a month, keeping in mind that food is just the first step in their work of addressing the underlying issues their clients face. We can't address systemic challenges around hunger and food scarcity without building a strong network of community resources and services that are innovative, equitable and just. Access to healthy food is a right, not a privilege. Learn more and donate here: https://shorturl.at/6OMIP #pieforthepeople

🥬 Fresh, healthy food is a basic human right! 🥬 Yet it's becoming a luxury. The Boston Globe recently reported that grocery prices have gone up 25% since 2019. In that time, food insecurity in Massachusetts has also doubled. More families than ever are turning to food assistance programs for help. When they do, we believe they should find nutritious, high-quality options that nourish them, spark joy, and reflect their tastes. That's why Gaining Ground farms sustainably for hunger relief, and donates *everything we harvest* to regional food pantries, soup kitchens, day shelters, schools, and more. Will you support our work with a tax-deductible contribution today? Your financial contribution will yield fresh, organic produce this year for 2,100 households experiencing food insecurity in #Boston, #Lowell, and the #MetroWest. https://lnkd.in/e5vKvS7P Thank you!

National Food Bank Day was established to recognize food banks' vital role in fighting hunger nationwide. The first Friday of September is set aside to honor these critical organizations and to raise awareness about food insecurity. Van Hengel's innovative idea, sparked by the potential of recovering surplus food from grocery stores and restaurants, revolutionized the landscape of food outreach. His system, which swiftly collected and distributed food to those in need, gained rapid momentum, leading to the establishment of numerous food banks nationwide. This is a testament to the transformative power of a single idea. Here in Tucson, we're fortunate to have outstanding local food banks making a difference in our communities every day: ●The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona: serving Tucson & beyond, CFBSA offers a range of vital resources. These include food distribution, nutrition education, and advocacy, all aimed at alleviating food insecurity and promoting a healthier community. ●ICS (Interfaith Community Services): Offering food assistance & other supportive services to help individuals and families in need. ●Marana Community Food Bank: A branch of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, focusing on providing food and resources to those in the Marana area. Food banks in the U.S. distribute millions of pounds of food to families in need every year, making a huge impact on fighting hunger nationwide. National Food Bank Day is the perfect time to support your local food bank. Your help goes a long way, whether through donations, volunteering, or advocacy; together, we thrive! #tarsocial #tucsonrealtors #TARYPN #trcfsocial #tardiversity #tucsonarizona #realestate #realtorlife #deiwecare #diversitymatters #allwelcome #deiallwelcome #NationalFoodBankDay

Food Insecurity Across the United States Think about donating money to help with Food Insecurity. Food insecurity affects every community in the U.S. Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap study is a powerful tool to understand local impact and take action. We can leverage this data to address factors impacting food insecurity and unite to ensure everyone has access to the food and resources we all need to thrive. Some key findings from our most recent study include: Food insecurity impacts communities in every county, parish, and congressional district in the U.S. Child food insecurity rates can reach almost 50% in some counties. Eight out of 10 high food insecurity counties are in the South, indicating regional disparities. Rural counties disproportionately experience high levels of food insecurity compared to urban areas. In Michigan, nearly 12% of people face food insecurity, and many of our community members face barriers to accessing nutritious food. Food insecurity has soared over the past few years, making it more important than ever to create a future where our food system is equitable, sustainable, and equipped to meet southeast Michigan’s needs. At our foundation, we support a number of nonprofit organizations, including Fair Food Network, Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan, Forgotten Harvest, Capuchin Soup Kitchen, and Make Food Not Waste, who are working to increase food access, destigmatized food insecurity, and provide education and resources so that people throughout our region can thrive. For years, West Advisory Group has proudly partnered with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwestern Pennsylvania, working together to alleviate hunger in Erie County and beyond. We’ve witnessed firsthand the devastating impact that food insecurity can have on families and individuals in our region. Hunger doesn’t just mean empty stomachs—it means children struggling to focus in school, parents facing difficult choices between groceries and bills, and seniors who’ve worked their entire lives left without enough to eat. This issue affects the very fabric of our community, and that’s why we’ve made it our mission to take action. Through our long-term partnership with Second Harvest, we’ve seen the incredible difference that consistent support can make. Every meal provided, every life touched, strengthens our community and brings us closer to a brighter, more secure future for all. We took action because we know that hunger is an issue we can’t afford to ignore. You can take action too. Join us in supporting Second Harvest and help make Northwestern Pennsylvania a place where no one goes hungry. #NWPAFoodBank #HungerActionMonth #HAM2024

On Wednesday, Feeding America's Research & Innovation department released our annual Map the Meal Gap study. Food insecurity exists in every county, parish and congressional district in this nation, but it isn’t experienced equally. Food insecurity levels vary across regions, influenced by factors like unemployment and poverty rates as well as policies and practices rooted in history that continue to hold people back today. Eight out of 10 counties with the highest rate of food insecurity are in the South. Rural counties disproportionately experience high levels of food insecurity compared to urban areas. And racial disparities persist, with significant variations in food insecurity rates across different racial and ethnic groups and geographic locations. You can explore the data in your community at map.feedingamerica.org. I encourage you to learn about the impact of hunger in your community. Spark conversations around the systemic factors that drive food insecurity then join the movement to end hunger through your local foodbank like the ones in the communities I've called home: Mississippi Food Network: https://www.msfoodnet.org/ Community Foodbank of Central Alabama: https://feedingal.org/ Mid-Ohio Food Collective: https://mofc.org/ Chicago Food Depository: https://lnkd.in/gbJeEiKg Help us create a future where we all have access to the food and resources we need to thrive. #EndHunger
