The National Memorial Day Concert is an American tradition that honors our country’s veterans, fallen service members, and military families. One of this year's featured stories honors 1st Lt. Nainoa K. Hoe, son of U.S. Army Veteran and Hawaiian Native Corporation Board Chair Allen K. Hoe. In 2005, Army 1st Lt. Hoe died in a sniper attack in Iraq at the age of 27. 1st Lt. Hoe served with the 3d Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington. “Each year on Memorial Day, I pause to remember the young men and women whose lives were cut short by saying their names and sharing their stories.” – Allen Hoe Hear Allen talk about his heroic son, how loss has inspired him, and his commitment to healing the wounds of war: https://lnkd.in/gpBUNebh #MemorialDay #America #Veterans #GoldStarFamily #Army #Hawaii

Top tip! Bring along clothes you love and that show off your personal style! The standard advice on what to wear for your headshot does tend to steer people towards a conservative look. And there are times when it pays to play it safe and follow the company culture! For instance if you are looking to join a new company, or to rise up in the ranks of your current organization, checking to see how the Executive team presents themselves online could provide you with ideas on what to wear for your headshot. But in many instances, especially if you are in a sales, marketing, or creative role, injecting some of your personality into your personal brand can help you to stand out from your competition! More adventurous choices of color, pattern, and accessories can help make you more memorable to your clients and prospects, and to “stop the scroll” here on LinkedIn. I absolutely love this pink jacket Katherine brought along to her Portraits For Patriots® session! Portraits of Patriots is a 501(c)(3) Charitable Organization with a mission is to ensure that everyone that comes through the program benefits from a high quality professional headshot to aid their transition. #volunteer #personalbranding #charity #stopthescroll
“Karen was such a joy to work with! I’m so pleased with the results from my shoot and Karen made the whole experience fun, enjoyable and comfortable. I will definitely be recommending her to all my military and non military friends!” Katherine Peterson, Senior Communications Leader, US Army #review #testimonial #military

There are two pillars in nation building. One pillar is men and the second pillar is women. When both pillars are strongly placed then the structure of the country is most stable.
In 1918, the U.S. Army Signal Corps sent 223 women to France as telephone operators to help win the Great War. They swore Army oaths, wore uniforms, held rank, and were subject to military justice. By war’s end, they had connected over 26 million calls and were recognized by General John J. Pershing for their service. Unidentified Soldiers Of The 33rd United States Colored Troops The 33rd was organized on January 31, 1863, or February 8, 1864, as 1st South Carolina Volunteers Colored Infantry. Attached to U. S. Forces, Port Royal Island, South Carolina, 10th Corps, Dept. of the South, to April, 1864. Mustered out January 31, 1866 "No officer in this regiment now doubts that the key to the successful prosecution of this war lies in the unlimited employment of black troops. Their superiority lies simply in the fact that they know the country, while white troops do not, and, moreover, that they have peculiarities of temperament, position, and motive which belong to them alone. Instead of leaving their homes and families to fight they are fighting for their homes and families, and they show the resolution and sagacity which a personal purpose gives. It would have been madness to attempt, with the bravest white troops, what I have successfully accomplished with the black ones. Everything, even to the piloting of the vessels and the selection of the proper points for cannonading, was done by my own soldiers." — Excerpt from February 1, 1863 report by Colonel T. W. Higginson, commander of the First Regiment South Carolina Volunteers (Union) after the January 23 - February 1, 1863 Expedition from Beaufort South Carolina, up the Saint Mary’s River in Georgia and Florida. Some people think these men were forced to go to war. But make no mistake: Many did it because they were brave, wanted to protect their families and country, and hoped to be respected for their actions. #memorialday2024 #blackhistory365 #blackhistoryisamericanhistory Credit: American Black History - Old Photos

Great interview with Tim Kennedy founder of Sheepdog Response . Key takeaways: - Veteran transition strategy (find your purpose) - Why veterans make great civilian employees (dedicated to the mission/ focused on results) - Veterans have a Continuous Improvement mindset (this is key to organizations who strive for best in class/ best quality/ want to dominate the industry) Side note: If you are struggling to find your purpose, contact me. As an Oxford Leadership coach, I help people define and align their personal and professional purpose, values and vision.
We had the honor of having Austin's FOX 7 in the house. Tim Kennedy talked about transitioning from the military to the civilian sector and how the military training he received has helped him start his businesses. #military #militarytransition #enterpreneur #selfdefense

*I dedicate today's post to Marcie Ila Lane, RSSW and her daughter, MCpl Cadet 0livia Vernelli, 3rd Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment (3 RCR) Cadet Corps, in honour of their late husband, father, and hero, Master Corporal Scotty Vernelli, 3 RCR.* Healing is a journey that takes time and effort. You cannot heal instantly or skip any steps. You have to go through the whole process, even if it is painful or difficult. It is continuous and consistent. You cannot pause or interrupt your healing, or else you will lose momentum and progress. You have to keep moving forward, even if you face obstacles or challenges. You cannot derail or divert from your healing, otherwise you will suffer more harm and confusion. You have to stay focused and faithful, even when you doubt or question yourself, but it is beyond worth it. "Grief is not linear, rather relentless, destructive, unforgiving while also empowering, gracious and comforting. Time doesn't heal, it affords us more opportunity to process something we had no control over." - Marci Ila Lane Canadian Armed Forces | Forces armées canadiennes Canadian Army | Armée canadienne Royal Canadian Army Cadets @3__rcr #rcr #3rcr #caf #royalcanadianregiment #cadets #canada #armedforces #servicemen #servicewomen #remember #heroes #everydayisremembranceday #military #soldier #veteran #heal #healing #healingtogether #healingjourney #whatsyourtwenty #whatsyourtwentypodcast #healoutloud #dedication #empowering #itsnecessary #iseeyou #wy20 #connection #humanconnection #healingispossible

W O M E N - I N - M I L I T A R Y Women in the military have always sparked debate. Over the years, their roles have evolved significantly. From the first female nurses in the Royal Navy during the 1880s to women flying RAF combat aircraft in the 1990s, progress has been steady. Today, women can even serve in close combat units. This change brings the UK more in line with its allies and represents a big step forward. Here are some examples of the incredible roles women hold today: a female RAF weapons technician, fine equestrians from the British Army's King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery, and both flight deck and embarked personnel from the Royal Navy. Do you know any women who have served or serving? Are you a woman currently serving or who has served? How do you feel about these changes and the evolving roles of women in the military? Share your thoughts in the comments below! 👇 #WomenInMilitary #WomenOfCourage #BreakingBarriers #MilitaryWomen #Army #Navy #ServiceWomen

Read more at MPBOD.com/183 The United States Marine Corps is a unique branch of the US military and is organized as part of the Department of the Navy. With over 241 years of warfighting experience and distinct prestige, the Marine Corps has mastered the art of military structure.
